Volvo, Touran or Merc?

We have a Bailey Pageant Champagne that we currently tow with an elderly Mitsubishi Pajero. Needing to downsize for better diesel consumption, we don't want to sacrifice comfort or reliability and want something that will last. We're in the used car market with a budget of up to £10k and are thinking of three possibles - Volvo V70, VW Touran or Mercedes C220. Diesel automatics are givens so what would other readers recommend?

We tow with an old 2.5 litre V70 Diesel I've had petrol V70's,

940LP turbo's etc etc This is best ever at Legal speeds on m11 - m25 to work every day I get 60 mpg Towing about 35mpg Safe and secure.
