VW Passat

Please can someone tell me the kerbweight of a VW Passat TDi SE 130 Estate 2001-2002 model? Would you recommend this as a tow car? We are contemplating changing our Vauxhall Omega 2.5 TDi Estate for either a Mondeo TDCi 130 Estate (around a 2002 model) or the Passat as above. The Omega has been an excellent towcar but we fancy a change and possibly better fuel economy on the 345 days a year we are not towing! Our caravan weighs 1300kgs laden.

Many thanks.

I had a 2001 Passat TDi SE 130 Estate. The handbook weights are for the base model so I took mine to a public weighbridge to check. The car, unladen and without me in registered 1545kg. Yours should not be much different.

It was a very good towcar, very steady and coped exceptionally well with my Bailey Senator Arizona ( mtplm 1470kg )

We have a 1999 VW Passat 1.8S Estate, which tows our 1300kg Lunar beautifully, until we hit a muddy field! (We bought the car before we decided to have another go at caravanning). You will find that VW quote their Kerbweight differently, or they used to, i.e., without any fluids or anything else in the car, so you can probably count on it being over 1500kgs. A weighbridge might be your answer, but I don't think you have anything to worry about.
