Unlike a lot of modern so-called comics Benny Hill was very funny. It's a pity that when at his prime, and entertaining millions of people, the powers that be, paid more attention to the "alternative" commedians whose one talent seems to be screaming obcenities at their audience and consigned Benny and his programmes to the dustbin.

After Benny Hill was 'sidelined' here he actually became very popular in France. I suppose his brand of comedy (most of it, anyway) didn't take a very good understanding of English to make it enjoyable. There always seemed to be Benny Hill programmes on French television whereever we had the opportunity to watch it.

Even recently I've seen Benny Hill DVD's on sale in France so would guess that he's still popular there.
