Is the Dordogne the best place.If so what part and looking for quality sites. After 4 years in wet Britain I want some sun.

The Dordogne has more than its fair share of quaintness! As a region its just delightful. Sarlat should certainly be on your list but there are many,many delightful small towns and villages. It also has its fair share of excellent campsites and I am sure you will get many suggestions. The Dordogne is lovely - lots of nice villages, castles on hilltops, markets, and scenery 'a plenty'. Start there - and then spend the next thirty years going to all the other lovely places in France. There are so many - the Alps, the Riviera, the Pyrenees, the Tarn Gorges, the Ardeche, the Auvergne, and so many others - you could keep going back year after year and still find lovely places to visit.

No hesitiation in recommending Camping La Bouysse near Vitrac. (Approx 520mls from Calais)
This site is right on the Dordogne river, an easy 15min drive south of Sarlat.
We have seen a lot of France and visited this area for the first time in September this year. We now understand why people rave about the Dordogne.
Temperatures were a very comfortable Mid 20's upwards. It had been 38C in the height of the season.
Take a canoe trip (no experience necessary) from the site and visit some of the most scenic villages and chateaux anywhere - Domme, Roque Gageac, Castelnaud, Beynac, to name a few. Check these out on the web. Remember to chill your wine for the trip.

We paid 13 Euros a night with ACSI Card.
We will certainly be back next year.
Try it, you wont be disappointed.

We stayed in Sarlat for a fortnight in the summer at camping les perrieres - you could walk into town from that very nice site.

When you've tried the Dordogne have a look at Provence and/or the Jura. Both excellent and less 'touristed' off-season. Both suitable if you're not a beach and sea person.
In Provence - Roussillon, Sisteron, and that area. Jura - Besancon, Salins-les-Bains, Pontallier

La Tourniere is an 8 van site near to Montignac right in the heart of the Dordogne. We are there in 2011 for the third year running. Quiet, excellent amenity block, friendly and helpful owners. Another worth considering is near to Mazamet it is Camping Lestap. Both have web sites accessed via Google.
