Warp in bathroom work surface

Hi all, a friend of mine has recently pulled their caravan out of storage (bit late due to personal circumstances) and discovered a big problem in their bathroom. The work surface underneath their window has warped. It is quite difficult to explain but the top melamine layer has curved off the wood. It is near the bathroom window. They have contacted the dealer who was quite rude and are saying that the warranty only covers for one year. They have read the book and it says that there is a 3 year warranty cover for water ingress which it seems to be (from window maybe). They are trying to say that a pool of water has been left on the area resulting in this warped effect. This is highly unlikely as the caravan would have been towed after last use so any water would have dispersed and the caravan is always cleaned and checked before leaving any site. It is a Sterling Eccles. Never had any problems in the past with this make. Any thoughts on this. Helen.

this probably wont be water ingress, how old is the van

sterling is swift right? i would get another dealer to have a look a good technical dept would be able to stick the laminate back down. if the wood is swollen underneath the laminate then its probably a leaking tap,

can you press the laminate down at all ie wood not swollen up

Hi Paul, the van is 2 years old. It looks as if the top layer has stretched. There is no split at all. If you can imagine the wood underneath being a road and the top layer being a hump back bridge - that's what it looks like. It's bizarre. Helen

Helen. A similar fault is sometimes seen in household kitchen tops where the melamin comes away from the main wood of the worktop. This is a manufacturing flaw in this case as the adhesive has dried before the bonding process has completed or was not adhered in the first place (IE not enough adhesive used at manufacture.

Again I'd take a second opinion from another dealer or even ask a joiner with relevant knowledge to take an independant view.

Helen,

I would put a message on this forum, on this thread, for Andy at Swift caravans. Swift manufactured your caravan and Andy will probably be able to help you.

hi again

its just the laminate glue thats not stuck enough

i would try some 2 pack glue pumped in and spread evenly and thin and then weight the laminate down, a good kitchenn fitter would do this job cheaper than a caravan dealer.
