Hello everyone ,

I think its great to have long warranties , 5 years plus etc , this gives you the certainty that the product it good and reliable OR does it .Maybe 50% of contributors on most forums are complaining about reliability of all sorts of different products . Mainly caravan manufacturers, caravan accessories , caravan fitments . Lets just take one that has a good name but reading between the lines a poor reliability record , Powrtouch , always praised for its rapid response when something breaks , but should it really break . Its brilliant that they usually respond quickly and have a 5 year warranty but by gum do you need it ( according to contributors that is ) just the same with ( to name a few ) Bailey,Swift,Explorer , Alko,Status,Calor etc etc etc . I would much prefer a 5 year warranty that I never used thereby proving good reliability .I ask , when are the Japanesse going to start building caravans and associated equipment ? .To me its like the majority of the British manufacturers require a long warranty just to keep there seldomly used items in running order , not taking into account their poor design , poor manufacturing and poor materials . Its a good job that the majority of British industries don't get it wrong like the caravanning industry . Okay gripe over , Powrtouch was an example only . ----- STEVE .

Warranty is just a marketing exercise - manufacturers can estimate the cost of repairs and build that into the purchase price.

I'd love to see Japanese or Korean caravans in the UK - they'd be well designed, well tested and well built. They'd probably only make minor changes every five years or so but they wouldn't get "teething" problems with new features. They'd also go on for ever!

Warranty should be just in case of unforeseen problems, not to correct design or production problems.

Well said RogerL, I couldn't agree more.

Surely it cannot be that difficult to make something that will last more than a year or two!
