I apologise now if this has been asked before but we need to know quite soon as we have another holiday looming. Could anyone please tell me if we have to take our caravan back to the dealer where we bought our new caravan from to have some warranty work done on it or can we take it somewhere else, or even get a mobile caravan engineer to look at it, approved of course. Read carefully what is on your document. Some manufacturers will allow work to be done by any approved dealership, others insist on the selling dealership.
If in doubt contact the manufacturer and ask.

The contract relating to your van is betwen you and the supplying dealer.
Normal Annual Servicing can be carried out by either him, or a NCC Approved Workshop/Approved Mobile Workshop.
Warranty repairs are the sole responsibility of the supplying dealer.
However, IF your dealer agrees, and only if he does,then it may be possible to have a different workshop who is also the same manufacturers approved, or a NCC Approved Mobile Workshop.
If you have anything repair related done without his agreement , he can refuse to cover the rest of the warranty period.
This is extremely important as far as the owners of Alu Tech vans goes.
ONLY BAILEY APPROVED workshops can do anything to them, including annual servicing.

I find this confusing because I bought my Bailey caravan in Surrey but after a year, I had a warranty claim. I found a Bailey approved workshop in Basildon (only a few miles away from where I live) and asked them if they could do the repair. They said yes. They ordered the part from Bailey, phoned me to say bring the van in and I didn't have to pay for anything, just sign a document. I never asked permission from the original Surrey dealer so when Damian says,

The law on contract is quite clear.
Your contract when you buy a van is between you and the supplying dealer, NOT the manufacturer.
So, strictly speaking anything which needs doing within warranty period is for the supplying dealer to sort out.
Bailey have a more flexible approach and have their own approved workshops throughout the country, as well as using NCC Approved Workshops.

I bought my Lunar from a well known dealer in Lancashire about 130 miles from home. However my local dealer Ropers at Catterick agreed to do any warranty work as long as they serviced the van. They have recently lost the Lunar dealership but again they said they will honor any warranty work that needs doing.

I am about to have warranty work on my van which is a 2009 Sterling Europa 620. I purchased it from Ryedales in Leicester, spoke to Swift and they confirmed the nearest NCC and warranty outfit was in Basildon, i live in chelmsford so not to far a distance for me to travel.

all the manufacturers have agreements with their dealers to undertake warranty repairs on their behalf, regardless of where the caravan was bought. but most dealers will always put their own customers first, after all they did spend their money with them.
it is right that your contract is with the supplying dealer, but the manufacturers warranty repairs can be done at any of their dealers if the dealer chooses to.
there are also instances where a service centre have completed warranty repairs for a manufacturer, even though they do not sell their products. this does not happen often though.

Gaurantees are the responsibility of the seller.
Under EU Law any manufacturer approved workshop can carry out warranty work. Its the same with cars.But the workshop must be approved by the manufacturer.
