Washing up

Ok, so Ive asked the "hands up who uses their bathroom question" and got a good response.

after another weekend away and noticing the actions of other vanners going off the the sinks provided on site to do the washing up.........I do my washing up in the van and found it strange to watch others go off with their washing up liquid and dishes.....so who else washes in their van or elsewhere???!!!!!

Hi Sarah, Well got to admit when the kids used to come away with us it was their job to take the pots to the washing up area,now here's just me and Chris we do the pots in the van!!

Well Sarah we do owe washing up in the caravan but if we have a bar q I take the tray to the washing room. Bigger sinks in there can get it clear in there and save mucking the van up.

I'm one of them that marches around with bowl of dishes and washing up liquid. It suits me in that we use the sites hot water; there is more elbow room, bigger sink and its more sociable.

We avoid the communal sinks, we did that when tenting. We paid for the luxury of the van so trooping off with bowl and messy plates is a no no.

Depends if I'm feeling sociable or not. What I want to know is...when is someone bringing out a dishwasher for caravans?.... we've got everything else and if we ain't the other half wants to pack it.

I think it comes with ex campers!

We ourselves camped for years and looked enviously at caravanner's...now we have our own van we are using it to the max!

There is a dishwasher for Caravans, also goes by name of "husband" / "partner" / "kids"

Now we have a van with a sink the idea was to use it for washing up etc etc.

Its ok if theres not a lot but even with only 2 of us an evening meals worth of washing up is worth a trip to the site sinks.

Besides I think the wife finds the company and chit chat can be quite an ice breaker leading to like minder friends etc.

Oh I sit back at the van with the wiping up cloth poised at the ready.........and YES I do use it when the wife returns

My wife and I always use the site amenities for washing the dishes, toilet and shower. The toilet in the van is only used in an emergency at night. We don't want the mess, etc. in the van and as others have said there is also that chance of meeting new and old friends for a chat.

This dishwasher is past doing table tops !!!!!, may be I could be traded in for a newer model

I guess the Mrs and me are in the unfriendly caravanner camp. Like to keep out of the way of others on sites.

We don't do chit chat, will help with a push into place but that's it.

Peace and solitude is what we get from the van.

I can't be bothered with all this backwards and forwards with baskets of dirty dishes, and like Euro, not into networking at the communial washing up area either. BTW I heard somebody say that washing up pet dishes is not allowed. I don't know whether this is right perhaps somebody will know!

Wendy - never heard the pet dishes one....I always do the dog bowl last after ive done all our dishes in the van!

Im just curious about the washing up thing, wondering why all these people were going with their bowls when they have lovely new vans with nice sinks!

Sarah, the dog bowl thing was something I read in one of the monthly mags.

A very irate, obviously non pet owner, wrote in and said that he/she was extremely disturbed at the fact people were washing up their pet bowls in the communial washing up area. Their problem appeared to be that, any residue of pet food could be left in the plug hole, and contaminate the next washer upers dishes.

Surely people clear the plug hole before they vacate the sink, or the writer really needed to get a life IMO!!

I wash up in the van. Ever since staying on a site and seeing a woman and child actually washing their dog inside the wash-up sink!!! The sight almost turned me green!!! From then on I have never trusted fellow campers. If they wish to trundle down to the washing up area they can. I much prefer my own sink. The hot water also helps to keep the sink pipes clean.

Having had babies and knowing what they "DO" seeing a sink used to "clean" baby did the same for me and the Mrs

I`m with you, after paying 13.5K for a van with all the bells and whistles, I`m blowed if I`m going to walk the site with a bowl of dirty pots, or even in a robe to the shower block,

The only things I use on sites are the Loos, elec h/u, water and waste, that is why I prefer CL sites, and I save a fortune.

Similar story here euro! - infact the same couple seen cleaning their baby in a sink were told off in no uncertain terms on the French campsite we were on (La Sirene - Argelese) for allowing their baby to use the pool when it had no nappy on and clearly had a "stomach problem".

The only thing you could say in this couples defence was that they were clearly as thick as two short planks.

When the pool attendents told them to go they got a round of applause and we all had to put up with a higher concentration of pool chemicals for the next few days.

Beggers belief does it not!
