Perhaps you need to relax and stop worrying about other people.

Should you wish to wash your van I recommend recycling the shower water especially after using moisturising body wash and/or shower gel.

The shine on the finish reduces the need to wash the van so frequently thus causing less distress to unfortunate onlookers.

thanks john for your reply but using body wash is as bad as fairy washing up liquid on cars .the ingrediant damages the paintwork.fenwicks is the best for using on vans.

Well Ive never washed my van on site and have only seen it once. We arrived last Friday on site at the same time as another van 2 pitches down and as soon as he was pitched out came the brush, shampoo, step ladders and watering can. It took him a long time to do it because it was a big twin axle van. No problem with that, especially as he might not be able to do it at home or get to the roof. On the Sunday as we were packing up to go he was washing it again, now thats taking it a little bit to far surely, not even 2 days. Hopefully the chemicals in the shampoo he was using didn't kill the grass he was on.

I have seen people wash their van on site and did used to think it was a bit sad.

However, I can't get my present van on the drive so I think if I needed to, I might consider washing it on site if it was very dirty. The only other alternative is to take it to my work place. Plenty of room on the car park and there is plenty of water and a fine selection of hoses. The only problem is they'd all be looking out the window at my attempts to reverse so that's why I haven't washed it at work yet!!

More seriously I can see nothing wrong with washing the van if you have had a long /dirty tow .

We go to one site at Longnor and it involves a cattle crossing a mile from the site.

Its not very nice handling the front locker etc when its plastered in cow muck/diesel/mud etc so a quick wash with a brush and rinse with a watering can etc seems prudent.

When people go on rallies to France/Spain etc its quite normal to see the front of the van at least given a quick swill down.

I can quite see Watson(JohnG)s need to remove cow muck etc from a `van but theres times when you see some people on a site making a daily ritual of washing the `van and car which to my mind is way OTT.

In our days of using a tatty old folding caravan we would never consider doing more than just wiping off 'nastinesses' and often chuckled at those giving a `van a complete goining over. Now with the new popup we have revised that thinking and can be found with a bucket of soap and water keeping our pride and joy in some semblence of smartness.

I dread the day when it becomes a ritual tho

Hi Frank did not wake up at all grumpy on this beautiful bright sunny morning in this peacefull Staffs village.

Just expressed (I thought) a valid point

We were in Brittany a couple of years ago and our friends were driven mad by the daily washing of the car/van on the next pitch.

We call such events "Colins"

Now what do you think we shoild call people who accuse one of being grumpy

Wee story.

Many years ago, driving solo in the Yorkshire Dales we were following friends in their newly washed and gleaming white car when we passed through a farm which was on both sides of the road (Mucker or Gunnerside I think) Anyway, a herd of cattle had just been moved and the resulting mess on the road had to be seen to be believed. As our friends went into a corner a Police car hurtled round fromthe other direction and the white car was splattered from one end to the other.

At that, one of my sons, then aged nine or ten, piped up:

"Dad, was that what is called a Sh - you know what - and run driver?"

I took it to mean curtain twitcher, you know those on site that know everything about you before youve even pitched up, some people have nothing better to do. we usually give them something to talk about then have a good laugh at them as they try to hide the embarasment of knowing we have seen them watching.

Earlier on this year we saw a lady polishing the inside windows of her awning, and she did this twice during our stay there on the weekend.

Perhaps she cleaned them so she had a clearer view, of what was going on outside her van?

Ok Alyson here's one for you.

The charming couple next to us had a new Buccaneer just after the Tv prog a couple of years ago.

Every bit of work surface was covered with protection

They had an immaculate car and Persian cat.

After the first night the lady informed us that the cat had evacuated its bowels on the carpet.

Doesn't have quite that same ring as creeping into crypts etc

I don't worry at all about how much muck is on my van or anyone else's for that matter, so long as the dirt does not get trampled inside.

Had an uncle once who would was his car everytime he came to visit us from Leeds, even used to take a windscreen wiper off to squeege off the water droplets.

Takes all sorts you know!!??

Me I'd rather an extra couple of hours on the beach fishing.

Holidays are for fun, not doing boring chores.
