water heater

I had always thought that the water heater in our van,a 10 year old Elddis, worked off electricity so can anyone tell me why it wont work if the gas is off

No problem to use as long as gas is on but just curious

Thanks all

Gill, it sounds like you have a Carver Cascade water heater.

Whilst you move a switch on the wall to start it, that simply supplies the electric to the control module in the fire, which opens the gas valve and starts the spark generator to light it.

Some models of Carver were gas only operation , whilst others are gas and electric, but the dual fuel ones have a separate 240v switch which should be marked as such.

It should be easy enough to lift up the seat and have a look at the water heater. If it has a standard electric flex going to an immersion heater then there'll be a switch at the other end.
