Water - how did it get in?

I have just discovered a small amount of water in two places in my Pageant Provence (2004). Inside, looking forward, water is along the lower edge of the left hand lounge window, the part to which the catches are screwed. It's as if the window had been left open but it wasn't! In one of the lockers directly above, a small pool of water has formed too. I am baffled because there is no sign of water having run down from the locker to the window edge and no sign of water having tracked down into the locker from anywhere. The van is kept in a storage field with others but the van that is normally on the side where the water has come in, has been away for a month or two, so exposing the side to the weather. I can only assume that somehow recent rain and high winds have blown the water in through the window seal. How on earth it go upwards though into the locker?! Anyone else have any ideas? Steve,

On a recent trip in our Wyoming (2005 Series 5), as we got back to storage we found 2 windows with similar puddles of water at the bottom of them, 1 front window and 1 side window (towards the front).

I initially thought we had left the windows on latch, but on checking, everything was fully closed. I never thought to check inside the cupboards.

We drove through about half an hour of steady rain on the way back, but the van has been towed in much wetter and more prolonged wet conditions without any water ingress and the weather whilst away was far too warm for any condensation to have formed.

Watching with interest !

Hi Ken,

Our van has been driven through rain and wind before but this has never happened until now. I thought our windows weren't shut but like you, they definitely were.

We last used the van a couple of weekends ago when the weather was great, no rain or any adverse conditions. I did some cleaning jobs on the van the following weekend ( 14/15 June) and although I cleaned the windows inside and out, I didn't open them and it was bone dry.

Between then and yesterday (21st June) we have had rain and wind and like I said, the van next to us is still away so we are exposed a bit. The pool of water in the locker took a few sheets of kitchen towel to mop up as did the water on the lower edge/sill of the window. I would have thought there would be tracks of water from the inside of the locker down to the window but there aren't, it's all dry, not even a 'run' mark down the inside of the window. It's just as if someone has taken a small jug of water, poured soem into the locker and then poured the rest along the inside window sill!

It's really very baffling!! Hope someone comes up with a simple inexpensive answer/solution for us both!!

Early in spring we discovered quite bad mould on the board directly under the front window of our 2007 abbey caravan. We got our dealer to look at this, they were baffled as the van was registering lower damp readings than the new ones on their forecourt. We reluctantly put it down to condensation. Shortly after we discovered a pool of water under the other front window following rain, although it hadn't been heavy rain. We never found any more until recently when I discovered water under both front (side) windows after washing the van. We contacted our dealer again and the van has been in to be checked over. They have tightened window catches and say that it is definitely now water tight. We have since washed the van (using a hose as a test) and this seems to have solved the problem. Also the front window boarding is to be changed under warranty as the mould had permanently marked it. For the life of me I can't see how it gets into the top locker though. I would suggest you have it checked.

Hi

Sorry to learn of this issue with your caravans.

Without seeing the caravans in question it is difficult to comment upon the possible cause.

I would suggest that initially you get your supplying retailer to inspect the caravan. In most cases of this type the remedial work necessary is pretty straight forward and for new caravans it will be covered under the six year integrity guarantee.

If you cannot get it resolved to your satisfaction then please e-mail me your caravan serial number and supplying retailer and I will endeavour to get this problem rectified as speedily as possible.

Kelly,

I'm sure the fix will be fairly simple and it certainly doesn't detract from our enjoyment of the van, which overall is superb.

It's good to know that you are monitoring,

Thanks,

Ken.
