Water issue

Hi, I've just bought our 1999 Lunar Solar 505 and I'm having an issue with the water. I connected up the pump and turned on the tap, as I expected it took a few seconds and came through the tap. However, the water flow stopped from the tap and started to flow outside from what I can only assume is an overflow of sorts. It's a carver system and I really have no idea what to do, I also have no guide as I purchased the van obviously used. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I agree it sounds like the drain valve is open. This should be in the front locker near the water inlet and is a switch type valve, ours is blue, and you move it probably from the upright position to flat. In ours it is to the right but that might vary, so if that does not work go to the left. If it is flat move it the other way until it stops.

As van is 1999 and has a Carver system it does not have a drain valve inside the van !!

The drain plug is outside as is the pressure relief valve.

Drain plug bottom left of heater, relief valve top left, both as viewed from outside under the cowling.

The most likely cause is the PR has been left in the open position, or the body has cracked and the valve needs replacing, or less likely the fusible plug has failed, given the symptoms.

I think after plugging a hole with my finger I have reached a conclusion as to why I have no water from my taps. The water is coming from a frost outlet, would I be right to assume there should be some sort of screw in plug here?

Your terminology "Frost Outlet" does not make sense, , but there should be no tapped holes without a fitting of some sort, usually a plastic fitting. I think you are probably referring to the drain plug which is located on the outside of the caravan at the bottom left hand side of the heaters plastic cowl.

You should be able to fins these for sale either at some caravan dealers or on line.

If you are putting your finger over a leaking pipe under the caravan .....that is likely to be what you call a frost drain.
The pipe fitting should have a blanking plug fitting that just pushes in and is self sealing.

Hello again volvoturboman.

As you are new to all of this you may not know the normal names for the parts you are trying to deal with .Effectively we are trying to guess what it is that's allowing water out. We are working blind here.

Can you post a picture of where the water is coming out?

And have you downloaded the instruction manual I pointed to in my first reply?

If not do so, read it and then compare it to what you have been describing. If you cannot find the part your are trying to describe in the instructions it, means its probably nothing directly to do with the water heater. To my knowledge Carver produced a "fast drain" valve for the Cascade and it always had a "Drain plug" but never a "frost drain" so its likely to be some thing the caravan manufacturer installed.

Caravans of the vintage that the OP has often had a cold water drain point through the caravan floor.and often under where the Carver heater was fitted.
This consisted of an extension pipe with a normal push fit connector at the end.
Into this was fitted a blanking plug as below.
To drain the system the plug was removed and if it is missing this could be the OP's problem.

I am only going on likely scenarios here  .......the other options have been given by Damian and the Prof.

Hi again guys sorry for certain terminology I'm using I am a complete novice. I searched through the caravan lockers and sure enough I found a little white screw bing which screwed perfectly into the hole so all is good on the water front. I only called it a frost drain because that is what is written on the cowling beside the hole lol. Problem is solved now guys thanks so much for all your help and for those instruction manuals those were brilliant. I have I believe only one more obstacle to sort before I head off this weekend and that is that I can't get the gas cooker to light but I'll start another thread on that. Thanks again guys

Hi

The Cascade says "DRAIN against Frost" on the external cowel - my mistake. The plug is more commonly known as the "drain plug"

Happy caravanning
