Water leak through roof vent

I am experiencing a water leak through the wash room roof vent on my 2005 Coachman Pastiche 470/2. This seems to happen sometimes when it rains but on other occasions it does not leak. I am wondering whether the rain is getting through a seal or is blowing up under the cover. Has anybody had a similar problem , is there any way of proving what is happening?

A lot depends on what the weather was like regarding wind strength and direction in relation to the van when the water came in.

As roof vents have fixed ventilation, it is possible that water has been blown up and under the cover, and entered through the ventilation.

Close examination of the sealing around the roof vent will soon determine if the seal is ok or not.

I had a similar problem with a similar aged caravan and went to greath lengths to reseal from the outside - to no avail. The seal has probably deteriorated with age and the vent will almost certainly need removing and reseating. It's possible to do it yourself if you're good at that sort of thing, but it is not a particularly expensive job if you ask a service agent to do it. If I remember correctly, I was quoted about £40 over and above the annual service.

You are absolutely right Collin, if the seal has deteriorated, the only way to fix it is removal of the vent, thorough cleaning of vent and van roof, and reseal with new mastic.

Trying to fix with a top layer of anything will not work.

Thanks for your comments My vent is a Seitz There is an overhanging lip at the back where the frame sits on the roof which makes it impossible to see the mastic on that side .Will have to monitor a bit longer and then maybe bite the bullet.
