Water lying on roof

I have now owned two caravans, (An Avondale and a Hymer), and I have noticed that they both collected a lot of water on the roof when left in storage. As soon as the caravan is moved, or hitched up, water pours off the roof.

Previously, I have always stored the caravan level, but to avoid this problem, I now tilt the caravan back, so any rainwater that collects runs off down the rear, and doesn't puddle on the top.

I have noticed that on the storage site, no-one else seems to do this.

Is this a good idea, I don't like to leave the van with water puddling on the top!!

All comments appreciated!!

HI,

Yes we always leave our caravan - an Eriba Touring - with the back down so water runs off at the back - it's just sensible to do this.

And we still do this even though our Eriba is covered with a generic Towsure breathable cover - and the GRP roof is curved on the Eriba

where my van is stored the water naturally tuns off one corner and it doesn't half leave a black mess behind which is pain to clean off. Also it has led to some of the sealant discolouring at the same point, and the plastic rim of the external access door get engrained with it as they are a rough finish - looks terrible!.
