Water Pressure Switch Adjustment

Hello to you all.

I have recently bought a 1998 Swift Conqueror 640 Salon and I have been having problems with the water pressure switch.

I use the external (whale) pump to fill the on board water tank as per the manual. I then check the water level tank is full by the control panel. I then open the hot tap and switch on the internal pump until the water flows. I then repeat this procedure with the cold water tap.

I have adjusted the water pressure switch to ensure that the pump is switching off/on correctly.

Now my problem is I have to constantly adjust the pressure switch. I am new to the caravanning scene, am I adjusting it correctly?. I have noticed that I need to leave the battery charger on constant otherwise the water pump starts up without touching the taps when to voltage drops on the battery.

Any assistance would be welcomed

Stephen, what you describe is quite normal.

Pressure switches are voltage sensitive, so will switch on and off as voltage drops.

When on site on hook up it is best to leave the charger on all the time to keep the battery at 13.8 volts

Hello Stephen,

I know what Damian means but the switch isn't voltage sensitive, but the pump is.

I do wonder if you are adjusting the switch correctly. Do you have a set of adjustment instructions? if not check on line at the manufactures web site for them.

while micro-switches are not voltage sensitive in the real sense, they are in as much as this;

The pump must build pressure fast enough to allow the action of the micro switch to 'snap' into the fully off position, as voltage drops the pump is at some point unable to do this.

The pump can now just manage to 'hover' the contacts apart where the slightest interference of any sort allows momentary contact, this switches the pump on and is enough to just part them again and hence the constant 'hunting' and need for adjustment.

Thank you for your speedy replies.

I do connect to the mains electricity supply due to the caravan being sited, and I always leave the charger on.

I am not in receipt of the pump instructions, so I will have to check the Swift site.

Cheers

Are you talking about the external filler pump, or the onboard pump?

If the onboard one, if it keeps starting up without reason, you may have a small leak somewhere.

Are there 2 pressure switches? One on the whale pump and one on the onboard pump?

The problem is with the internal (on-board) pump. I have noted your advice and I will check the water system for any leaks.

Thank you all for your advice
