Water problem - it doesn't work

Took the newly acquired 2nd hand Pennine Pullman (1991) folding camper out for the first time (just one night close to home) since buying it to check everying worked before going away for a week. All was brilliant except I could not get the water to work.

It is an electric foot pump working of a 881 Whale pump. I have replace all the hosing (prior to using, connected everything up but no water. I do know the battery (although I was hooked up to mains electric) is not holding its charge very well.

Any ideas?

Could I need a new battery

Could it need a new pump

Could the electrics to the actual foot presser (not the right technical description but you all know what I mean) inside the camper not be working

Who do I take it to for checking?

Any help gratefully received.

Really pleased with camper so not a major issue if water not working as I may look to change it for an online system in the future, has any one done this and how easy was it?

Thanks

Hi Debbi,

It's almost certainly a faulty micro-switch in the foot-switch (most likely burnt out) that is causing the problem.

If you can gain access to the internals of the foot-switch - then these micro-switches are an easy replacement job. If the foot-switch is a sealed unit - then replacement is the way forward.

How to test:

If you directly connect (a length of twin core wire) the battery to the water pump - it should run - if not, then the pump is faulty

If you can bypass the foot-switch (a short length of wire to bridge the switch) and the pump runs - it's a faulty switch.
