Water pump continues to run intermittently

The Whale pump (UV0814) in my 2011 Bailey caravan comes on for a split second about every 70 seconds. I cannot find any signs of leaks around the pump and hot water cylinder and the taps and shower are not leaking.

What could be the problem and where should I look?

You could try adjusting the pressure sensor but they do pump at intervals as pressure drops. Seems a bit regular to be right though.

Have a look on the Whale site ‘whalepumps.com’ ‘Adjusting your pressure switch’ - a detailed printable A4 that may just cure the problem for free. You may find that you need to readjust between powered by battery or EHU.

I would agree check the adjustment of the pressure switch and the sensor, but it could be a small leak, so if the pressure switch and sensor do not solve it, do check the plumbing, although you would probably have spotted a damp patch or a drip from under the caravan if that was it.

Based on the frequency of the pumps operation, It is almost certainly a faulty non return valve between the pump and the pressure switch. Most pressure switches incorporate a NRV.

Because the valve is not sealing, the leak past the NRV is allowing a small amount of water back to the cold water tank, through the pipework, but you wont see any damp patches because its all inside the pipework.

In addition to my last reply, there are other possibilities. The cold water system and the hot water system usually have drain valves that release water outside or under the caravan. Either of these if they are leaking wold cause the symptom you describe.
