Water pump issues

Hi everyone,

I have a lunar clubman se 2010. When I am connected to the water and I turn on the pump, the water just gushes back out of the inlet. Has anyone any ideas what the issue might be?

I assume you have a submersible pump in the aquaroll?
Turn on the pump? You mean the 12 v supply isolator switch?
Then if you turn on a tap what then? I assume you know how to bleed the air out of the system ?

Where you plug the water intake socket into the caravan there a few O Rings which perish overtime. This can be one of the reasons for the problem you have.

Others will give more thoughts .

It is a submersible pump yes. The switch is the main pump switch on the control panel. I don’t know how to bleed air out of the system, that would be useful to know. I know it isn’t the O rings as the pump is brand new. I have just bought a new pressure switch as the pump is just continually recycling. I’m hoping this solves it but I can’t be certain. Thanks for the reply.

To bleed close all taps with then with pump switched on open sink cold. Some water will go into the water heater and some air should come out of tap. But as heater fills water should come out of the cold tap. Then close. Go to bathroom cold tap and open. There should be air then water. Do same with shower. Then repeat with hot taps. Once the water heater is full the flow from taps should increase. Repeat as necessary until the air is dispelled and you get good water flow.

That’s how I did my last caravan but others will have their own methods depending on the caravan and their experience.

Sometimes you get an airlock in the outside aquaroll pipe. Turn off pump. Remove connector from caravan lift pump and pipe out of aquaroll. Replace pump into aquaroll then connect back to caravan inlet. Turn pump on. That should resolve airlock in that section.

@Waynethefixer when you say it just gushes back out , is that with the pump fitting still connected to the caravans inlet fitting? and what sort of system is it Whale or Truma? If its a Whale then if when you pull out the pump fitting then the non-return valve isn't closing, It may have debris on its rubber seal or perished . The inlet housing can be strippd down and the seal inspected and back washed ( but not removed) .If it is gushing out whilst connected then the two O rings on the inlet fittings have snapped ID 14mm Section 2mm. If its a Truma type ( pistol fitting) then if it gushing out whilst still connected the O rings on the pistol fitting have snapped or perished or the inlet housing is damaged. If it gushing out after removal then the inlet non return valve has failed ( debris or perished) this cant be removed and is difficult to access , holding it open with a small round rod may dislodge the debris but other than that its a new inlet fitting.Please let us how you resolve it.

It’s the Truma trigger type, which is brand new. The pump is just continuously pumping. It’s like it’s blocked, but I’ve read it may also be the pressure switch. If it’s faulty it can cause the pump to keep pumping and not switch off.

If you have water 'gushing out' the probability of building up enough pressure to operate the switch is pretty much zero, so the pump will keep running. Sort out the leak before you try to fix anything else.

If the o rings were correctly sealing water wouldn’t be gushing out unless the plug or socket part them selves are fractured.

The socket where the trigger is connected. The O rings are fine as the trigger is new. It’s like there is a blockage and there’s nowhere for the water to go except straight back out of the socket.

At the risk of stating the obvious, you are using the correct socket? Some Truma fittings have two "sockets", one for the submersible pump the other is an outlet for an external shower.

From your last post I take its just coming out of the inlet , or is it the trigger , if it's the inlet , then the no-return valve rubber may be stuck, I've come across this before , to check this gently press the black seal in the attached photo with a round rod ( not pointed) to check it opens . If OK then check the housing for cracks around it , again I've had a 'hamfisted' customer who managed to crack the surround ( the Truma system is notorious for being 'stiff' unless kept lubricated and some people hate the system and prefer Whale).

On the dual inlet Trumas I've seen the unused RH connector(When looking at the front ) inlet is a blank see photo, but doesn't go through the filter and doesn't have the electrical connectors on for the external pump., however someone could have modified it. A short video of the offending 'gushing' will give everyone a better idea of the problem.

Then the "trigger piece" isn't sealing in the socket - when it's all working properly the pump builds up pressure until the pressure switch cuts out - if the pressure switch is set too high the pump keeps on trying to increase the pressure but reaches the limit of it's capability - water doesn't come back past the "trigger piece" seals in any normal circumstances - so either the seals are ineffective or the housing is distorted.

I agree, given you have bought a new pump assembly ( including the trigger) then the housing must be cracked
