Water Pump Problem Lunar Quasar 615

I've been having problems with my water pump ever since I bought my Lunar Quasar 615 from new.

I'm forever altering the pressure clockwise and anti clockwise to stop the tut tut tut tut noise that comes from the pump once you turn the taps off. The pump would also start running for a few seconds when no one is using the water.

I have spoken to other owners of Lunar Quasars who have the same problem. I was advised by one to fit a surge damper. This has been a god send as the pump stops running as soon as you turn the tap off. The only problem is it still comes on of it's own accord for a few seconds at a time.

Can you please advise what the problem could be that is causing this and how I can fix it.

Hi David, If the pump is starting up intermitently without a tap open then you've got a leak somewhere in the system, first place to check is the pump connection, then work your way through all water connections in the van,if the van is under warranty your dealer should put this problem right.

David,

It could be one of a few things.Do you leave your water heater on all the time? If not cooling water in the heater will cause the pressure to drop and therefore the pump will run for a second or two.Do you on filling your water system run all your taps until water is running freely from each tap, both hot and cold including the shower. If not trapped air can cause the pump to run occasionally for a few seconds. The latest pressure switches are very sensitive. Make sure your battery charger is always swithed on(if on a hook up) as a drop in voltage can alter the pressure pump setting. Also a small leak can cause the pump to run.

Hope this helps.

Hello David,

The pump running for a few seconds every so often is almost certainly a leak.

I have to assume that you have checked all the visble pipework for leaks, and found none, so what remains is an unseen leak. as your system is operated by a presure switch, it is vital that somwhere on the input side to the pressure switch is a non-return valve. Thsi shoudl prevent teh pressurised system from back flowwing into teh water container.

If this valve is leaking, you don't see any evidence, as it is contained within the pipework, but it will allow the pressure to drop, and cause the pump to run.

If you carefuly dismantle the vlave you may find an obvious problem, often a bit of debris in the valve seat. The good news is that by clering the debris and perhaps changing the seal the problem is cured.

david, is your pump an internal shurflo? if it is, we had exactly the same problem. ACT NOW.... the problem we had was the large, clear filter screwed onto the inlet side of the pump is in two pieces. ours was leaking from the join, but only a very small 'ooze' after a while the system looses pressure and the pump kicks in to restore pressure. i removed this filter completely and the leak has been cured, as has the annoying 'on-off' pump.

hope this helps,

.dave
