water pump not working at all...
outfit -Bailey SE champagne 1995,whale pump submersible, presure system not micro switches, i know the pump works as i connected it to a 12volt battery and it runs fine, i have checked all fuses and switches.
Well...when the pump switch is switched on, a red light shows underneath it, but if i then plug in the pump to the side of the van the light goes out and pump is dead? both on 12v and mains, no noise no clicking, nothing. i checked the outlet on the side of the van and it has power going to it. I will of course contact a caravan engineer but i wanted to see if anyone had any ideas first?

The pump only works on 12v.
Have you checked the battery voltage at the terminals? Firstly with no mains power to the van, then with mains power to the van and the charger switched on?
Then the voltage at the connection to the pump?

How old is the pump?

pump is old came off my old 1989 swift but seems to work fine, 12v coming from bat and 12v at the terminal on side of van, all seems fine, fuses fine, only thing is when pump is plugged in, the pump light goes out and nothing occurs at all? also checked the switch which seems ok, thanks for the speedy reply!

I would suggest that you need a new pump, as it sounds like the pump is causing a short circuit, or very high resistance.

the pump i am using is off a van with micro switch system, the new van has a pressure system (i think) as there are no wires going to the taps?? will a standard replacment 12v whale pump off ebay work with this pressured system?? or do you think i need a diffrent one, and prehaps thats why its not working?

It makes no difference to the pump whether the van uses a pressure switch system or microswitch system.
They are just different ways of switching the power supply on and off.
The only determining factor in which pump to get is the fitting to the van inlet. As long as that is the same, you should have no problems
