I have just fitted a new water pump in my caravan, and it still will not pump water to the taps. Being very new to caravaning is there any thing else i should be looking at to rectify this problem.

Many Thanks

Janet,

What type of water pump do you have in your caravan?

If it is a pump which goes into your water carrier, switch your pump on at the control panel, open a tap and go outside to see if the pump is running.

If it is not runnung open all your taps to see if this will make it run.If you have microswitches in your taps then one may have failed. If one tap works and one doesn't then a microswitch has most probably failed.

If no water comes out of any taps do you have a pressure switch under the bunk? This may need resetting.

It is also possible that if your pump was faulty it may have blown a fuse so check the fuse.

It is also worth checking the electrical connections which the pump plugs into to see if they are live with the pump switched on and the taps open. You could have a loose wire.

Hi,

A couple of thoughts, is the water level going down in the water carrier when running the tap/s if so you may have a leak in the system or you may be filling the onboard water tank if you have one.

Check the water filter/s

Is the hot water tank drain valve open?

Check the holes on the end of the tap aren't blocked

Hello Janet,

The other correspondents have offered some useful pointers, however there is another common problem that you might be suffering, an air-lock in the pump.

If you have a submersible pump, (which is connected to the outside of the caravan and drops inside the portable water container.) then it may need to be 'primed'

If the pump runs but does not lift water there may be an air lock in the pump. To clear it, turn the pump power off, Unplug the pump from the side of the caravan so the hose-pipe is free. Put the pump in the water container, then reconnect it to the side of the caravan.

This should allow the water level to equalise inside and out side of the pump so the impeller is fully covered. When the power is turned on the pump should lift water to the caravan.

The other type of pump is fitted inside the caravan, and is generally nosier. These are diaphragm pumps and do not normally need to be primed.
