Collected our new van in August and travelled couple of hundred miles on our first trip. The water pump failed. Luckily there was a caravan dealer nearby so bought a new one. On getting back phoned the dealer and was given the 'you had water in the drum didn't you' inquisition. On taking it back the person in the shop said 'there was a faulty batch and the manufacturers ent around all the dealers replacing them'. Obviously, they did not do this with the caravan manufacturers, hence the faulty one supplied.

Sounds to me like you've got a pressure-switched, not a micro-switched system. The pressure switch will be inside the van wall behind the water inlet point. A small white gadget mounted 'in-line' on the main incoming water pipe, with a couple of wires to it. Depending on the age of your van (designs vary a little) this should have a small nurled turn-cap on top; you adjust this up and down to set up the pressure switching on/off of the pump circuit. The noise you're hearing at the moment is the pump being rapidly switched on and off. This is quite normal, but needs adjusting out. When a tap is fully open, the pump should be on and flowing smoothly. When you shut the tap off, listen for the pump to shut down a few seconds afterwards. If there is clicking on and off adjust the knob so that it switches off in one go at the right time. With trial and error you should get it right. It can take a while to set up. Also be aware that pressurised systems will behave differently when the van is hooked up to mains power (as the pump will give a stronger flow). Used for a few days on battery power only will soon have the pump not switching off, as the pressure can't build up enough. You just need to know, so that you can adjust when needed! Hope this helps. Richard.
