Water Splurting out of tap-Pressurised water system

I have an Abbey Caravan 3yr.old it has a Shurflo pump and Shurflo Accumulator - my problem is that the water is splutteirng out of the taps and the flow is not a smooth consistent flow as it used to be. Having read the literature which came with the van I see that the accumulator should have a pressure of 20psi mine is only 5psi, culd this be my problem? Not sure if I should charge it to 20psi. Would I do this with the accumulator under pressure or release the prssure by opening taps? Any advice on this would be most appreciated.

Thanks Robin

Hello Robin,

I have a Swift Challenger of a similar age to your Abbey and with a Shurflo Accumulator.

I have just looked in my handbook and it does confirm the 20psi pressure on the accumulator.

It also states that the initial pressure of 20psi is factory set. I would assume that the initial pressure set at the factory is done with the system empty of water.

Hope this helps.

Tony

Hydraulic accumulators are charged with nitrogen, pressure is set with no system pressure. It sounds like you system is similar, as also is a combi boiler expansion tank.

Although yours probably gets it charge from air, which is mainly nitrogen anyway.

Can you see a re charge connection point?

I believe you can pump it up to the correct pressure with a car or bicycle pump.

Do it when the system is not pressurised, open taps to release pressure first.

Yes there's a schrader valve on the side of the accumulator and I think it can be re-presurised using an inflator.

Cheers Robin
