Hi all..

Im having problems with my water systems. I turn on the tap.. no water comes out...it then proceeds to gurgle for a 10-15 seconds and water comes out spluttering and then the water pours out spluttering less often but has a weaker preesur than normal. I have a 2 year old dethleff 550 DL touring caravan. This only started this morning. No obvious leaks happening...this is my first caravan so Im just wondering if its the blue trumatic water that goes from the water barrel into the van...It still whirrs when i switch on the taps...any advice apreciated..

I was going to say I have a similar problem but I`m going to see my G.P about it, but that may be lowering the tone somewhat......

Anyway, your pump.

A couple of possibilities spring to my somewhat inebriated mind.

1. If it is a plug/push in unit, make sure it is fully home with no damage to the `o` ring seal which could let air in.

2. Make sure all other taps are fully closed, as a tap which is open sufficient to let air pass but not operate a microswitch ( we had this with a shower tap) can let air bleed into the system. If the pump is run for any lenght of time this will show up as water will eventually pass though.

hi rossa

I have to agree with angus sounds like an air leak and they can be a b****r to find as air is thinner than water so you can have air getting in but no water leaks,

I had a similar problem in the bailey, water worked fine untill left for a hour or so the the tap spluttered when turned on it turned out to be a cracked filter housing (OUCH !!!!) the filter kept filling with air it might be worth checking on your van see if the filter has air in it, it is not force to be cracked like mine could be just a o ring

Hello Rossa,

You don't say if the same happens on both hot and cold taps or if it is just the hot. You also don't say what make and models of equivalent is fitted, so i will make some assumptions here. I am guessing you have a Carver Cascade 2 water heater.

If it is is only the hot, then i suspect that you have a problem with the none return valves fitted to the water heaters cold inlet.

It sounds as though this might have jammed partially open, so when the heater warms up it pushes or allows water to escape back through the cold inlet feed. when the pump runs, it has to partially refil the hot tank, hense the delay in it emerging from the tap, and as the inlet is only partially open, it restricts the flow.

The solution is to dismantle the cold inlet valve and reposition the 'o' ring seal on its shuttle. Sometimes the seal is too badly damaged to function and you may need to replace the whole valve assembly.

the cause is usually the action of water being left in the heater over winter, when freezing conditions can cause ice to form inside the valve, and as it expands, it dislodges the seal.

To prevent it from happening again always make sure the entire heater is emptied of water before winter storage.

Safety Note.

The cold water inlet is at the bottom of the heater casting and usually connected to a blue pipe. If you cannot remove the fitting without moving the heater, then you must refer the removal of the heater (and it's refitting) to a compent gas fitter.
