Water surging 2008 Ace Morningstar

Arrived on site and cant get a flow of water (hot or cold). The pump seems to be working OK but it sounds like that there is air in the system, just spluttering water.

The other thing i've noticed is that on the control panel the green pump light is flashing, normally a constant light.

Any ideas more than welcome!

I have no knowledge of on board pumps so am unable to help.

Have you tried shaking the external hose to remove air locks?

Are you possibly drawing in air at the caravan connection point ,if you have one?

Have you tried tweaking the pressure switch, assuming you have one?

Some one will arrive soon to help.

Sounds like an air bubble in the system. Try this - close all taps, switch the pump off and disconnect the pipe from Van to Water carrier, reconnect pipe and switch back on. Allow pump to start and open the cold taps that is further from the pump/tank and see if the air comes out followed by water. Then do same with hot tap. Repeat with other taps - don't forget the shower taps. The above normally sorts a similar issue with our Abbey - only difference being we don't have an on board pump.

Hi Keith

Stupid point really , but I assume you have closed the Truma water heater yellow valve?

Cheers

Tried them Ray, but thanks
Hi,Keith,

have you made sure the suction filter is immersed in the aquaroll?

Have heard that if the filter has dried out it just sits on top of the water until the filter media absorbs water and sinks.

Have you a good connection on the external contacts for the suction filter?

Graham.

On the out side of the pump should be a grit filter, a clear palstic item, switch on pump and see if water is actually being pushed through the pump.

If you did not drain all the water from the pump over winter, you have probably damaged the pump valves and depending on make of pump require a new one.

This year alone (last 4 weeks) I have had to change 12 due to the same problem.

Keith

Assuming the aquaroll to caravan pipe is securely fastened It could be a split diaphragm in the pump.

can you blow through the water pipe, aquaroll to caravan? Not blocked at filter or kinked?

Sorry to hear you're having this trouble at teh start of the Easter hols.

Cheers

Hi Damian

All that is clear, is it an expensive job to repalce a Shurflo SUK 0228 pump, and can a novice do it on site?

Keith, depending where you but it from determines the price, sadly.

I would expect to pay, in any of the shops, about

Forgot to say, it has only two wires, just note connections and replace the same

Keith,

I have an onboard pump (Bailey Senator van, might be different pump). If you have not already done so check at the external water connection to your van you'll find there is a couple of rubber "O" rings, if damaged you might be continually drawing air into the system.

Last year my pump packed up on me two days before we were due to go away. As Damien says it is not a difficult job to replace. Cost me just over

Keith,

Do you have a screw on filter on the end of the pipe which goes into the aquaroll? If so remove the filter and try useing the pump without the filter. I had a similar problem with a new filter a couple of years ago.

Without seeing the van it is now more difficult to determine the problem, but it sounds like a major air intake somewhere.

I still think you have air in the system and more likely a split inlet pipe causing this amount of air to get in. However, and I guess this is obvious, but have you checked that you don't have any leaks anywhere else do you. Like has a pipe split over the winter (I am assuming this is your first trip out this year). May be worth checking along the pipe runs for any leaks especially around the hot water tank. This could cause the same symptoms. Look for wet and heavy bedding!

Where abouts are you - roughly ?

You could try a few of these

1,try a little washing-up liquid at each inlet joint one at a time to create a temporary seal if it is drawing air.

2,Crack open plastic filter after pump and run pump with drain open.

3, take off inlet pipe to pump and blow through to check it is clear.

4,Take off inlet at caravan wall an submerge in a glass of water higher than the pump if possible, try and fill the pump with water.

5,Run pump with drain tap open and dunk inlet up and down vigorously in tank

I have rarely had to replace one as they are the easiest pumps to fix

I wonder if you have a check valve that has failed allowing water to flow back into the water roll?

Hi Keith

What a bummer . A new pump and all.

I am certain there is a blockage or serious air leak. Do you have a filter on the end of the water feed pipe or an internal in line one?

Do you get the same result with all taps and the shower , trying opening and closing in different permutations?

Where are you? Maybe a local "Damian " could come out to you tomorow??

Best of luck.

Cheers

Dustydog off for a pint.
