OK the picture tells a story.

As I identified it previously you have a Carver Crystal Mk1 water inlet system, The picture shows the inside of the water inlet box, and it is missing the filter cartridge, and becasue its missing the pumps water flow is is escaping from the housing. The missing cartridge seals the system.

If you get one of these filters (still widely available) and use it, your water system should fill correctly. Do not over tighten the filter as that can crack the blue plastic housing it screws into. The web in the clear plastic cap should be vertical.

However as I have already indicated the blue plastic fitting in the caravan wall is now about 30 years old, and may already have been damaged if the previous owner has over tightened a previous filter.

These days you don't actually need to filter the water so when the filter has expired all you really need to do is to separate the the white plastic conical body from the clear cap, and just refit the cap into the housing in the caravan.

I also note there are no retaining clips in the picture to hold the hose into the blue housing.

If that is the same filter that is fitted on the older Lunar Clubman we really struggled to get a replacement filter, but this was way back in 2011. We upgraded the unit to the newer Truma and did away with the filter as no longer required. Saved us a fortune in filters as they were not cheap if you could get hold of one.

If you Google search for the Crystal filter MK1 there are plenty of sources shown. But as I have described it easy enough to eliminate the filter and avoid the need for buying future replacements.

Thank you @ProfJohnL ! I bought the filter online and problem solved! Very grateful for your advice. Now to see if the water heats up . . . .

Hello Good People!
After a break and having the caravan towed up a steep slope, the water pump is not being activated by turning on the water switch on the power console. Previously I could hear it start up, and then as advised turned on the taps til water appeared. But now the pump isn't making a sound. The power source is ok as the lights etc work. Might it be question of a fuse? If so, where would I find it? THANK YOU IN ADVANCE :)

The first thing to do is to find out if the pump is actually working.

Unplug the pump from the side of the caravan and using some electrical wire momentarily connect the pump directly to a 12V battery. When you make the contact the pump should run. If it doesn't the pump is faulty and needs to be replaced.

If the pump runs, then you need to if power is being fed to the pump at the connector on the side of the caravan. Using a multi meter set for Vdc push the probes into the electrical connection you have just exposed to see if 12V is provided when you turn on a tap. If you don't get 12V, then you need to investigate the wiring back to the fuse and master pump control switch.

Generally in caravans there will be a master pump control switch, and the fuse for the pump will normally be close by. Your caravan user manual should tell you where they are, and it should also tell you which one is for the pump. Fuses blow because there is an over current condition, so its possible the pump has failed and drawn too much current which has blown the fuse. Pump fuses will usually be 7 to 10A rated.

Just a word of warning, the submersible pumps rely on the water passing through them to cool the motor. Its important that you don't allow them to run for more than a few moments without any water flow, for example if the tap is blocked or if the water container needs refilling you must turn the pump master switch off to prevent the pump from being damaged.

If the pump is running but can't deliver water flow, the power used to drie the pump will cause the motor to heat up. eventually this softens the plastic of the pump housing and shaft seals which will then leak and if water gets inside the motor it will not last long.

Thank you Prof for this detailed response. Much appreciated. I'm organising a big event atm and after that I'll get onto this.
