What a day!

Some parts of Notts were brought to a total standstill, you couldn't get on or off the motorway at several junctions.

Serious RTC's, dangerous structures, an advertising board flew off its fixings and seriously injured a man. Trams stopped due to large tree falling on the lines. Numerous trees falling onto properties/onto the roads.

I have to say it's been the busiest day for a long long time. I even had to ring 999 for the fire service for an occupier from the fire station believe it or not.

What's it been like in your neck of the woods?

Here on the East coast of County Durham it has been windy and wet but not bad enough to do any damage. Few sleet showers and a few heavy rain showers but not as bad as predicted.

My wife has been visiting a surrey school today. Roads littered with fallen branches and shed rooves blown away and fences and old walls blown over is what she has seen. A friend near Farnham has been towing cars out a flooded road and from a ditch where cars slipped in trying to pass a water logged van.

Darn 4 x 4's what good are they ;-)

Here in sunny Bristol much the same, wind,rain,wind...Even gusts strong enough to make the caravan rock about on the drive, several fence panels down in our garden, bet B&Q are rubbing their hands now, this weekend you wont be able to buy a fence panel or post for all the tea in China.

Nightmare, the Thelwall Viaduct closed, numerous motorway junctions closed, roads closed, I've spent most of the day going round in circles and poor Jane in my sat nav nearly had a nervous breakdown, and the young copper who stopped me and told me to turn around as the road was closed "where do I turn" I said and he pointed to a driveway, and if anyone has tried to reverse an artic into a private driveway will know why I nearly got arrested for blowing my top

At home, two fence panels gone and the wheelie bin did a runner. At work, lost count of the amount of emergency services that went zooming by. Lots of trucks on their sides, lots of closures. I did find a shortcut home though, they do say every cloud has a silver lining.

Here on the Island we have had ferries disrupted, 100mph winds and several roads blocked by fallen trees.

Fortunately no one killed or injured,

I can't agree more, a very scary day.

Derbys/Notts not a nice place to be today, a very large tree came down accross the whole road on the way into Nottingham this afternoon, just before I got there fortunately but caused traffic mayhem making buses & cars drive up the footpath & through floods to get past.Couldn't get the children home quick enough.Roofs have blow off, major structural damage, lost count of the number of Articulated lorries that have been blown over virtually closing the M1 from J22 to J30.

Rain- I think Heaven just opened the floodgates today & said take that!

Thank god for my 4x4!

Hi Lisa

Been at college all day and the class that I in back on to some woods and we cud see the tree falling.

By luck had it the wind was going the other way so we were safe.

On the way home I haired on the radio that so of the night clubs and shops in the centre of town had the street closed off because off bits come off.

There was a power tower down on one of the roads and a number of roads had been closed because of tree that had fallen on them and the roof on the new Tesco ex shop was come off. Which as not had been open for three mouths yet.

Then when I got home Sharon said go and have a look on the back garden.

It was a mess there was bits of next door shed roof felt and some broken fence panes and the kids play house was at the over end of the garden on its roof all so it seemed if so thick was miss.

It was the kids trampoline it had been pick up by the wind and blow on to nest door but one back garden.

I went round to have a look to see if it had dun some thick. By luck it had not dun any thick and trampoline was ok as well but so of the bolts that hold the pole on for the net were bent and I said that we were sorry to the people who house it was.

So it look like we got a lot of clean up to do other the weekend.

Was very lucky yesterday, drove home from work in Lincoln and was only held up by a fallen tree onthe edge of our village for 1/4 hour. 3 lorry's were blown over on the A15 (only a couple of miles away) no news of the drivers so hope they escaped injury. We had a couple of fence panels loosened but nothing else.

Followed a caravan transporter for a short distance down the A1 yesterday near Boroughbridge. Lorry had a van on the back and one on the towball. Don't know how far he was going but never seen a caravan move so much with the wind, it looked like it was in a permanent snake

Loads of trees down or damaged in the north part of Hampshire...

Dreading going to 'inspect' the `van in its storage tomorrow..

Son works on the top floor of a 15 storey office block in Basingstoke and said he was scared the way the whole building was waiving around in the wind and rolling stuff around on his desk all day.

Electrics here gave up about 2pm but I guess we were very lucky as we had hower reinstated at 7-30pm
