weight of car /caravan

hi i have a relualt espace 2.0 16 v authentic 2002 and i am wanting to tow a hobby 5/6 berth the older type when i can find one in my price, anyway anybody got any sensible ideas on the kerb weight of my car in relations to towing this type of caravan.

thanks

Renaults are an exception in that their maximum permissible gross train weight is less than the sum of the maximum weight of the caravan and the maximum weight of the car. It is therefore quite possible that if the car is fully laden, you may not be able to tow 85% of the kerbweight (I am assuming you are asking about the kerbweight for this reason).

The first thing you need to do is to check the manufacturer's specification what you are allowed to tow if the car is at its max. GVW. Only then is there any point in comparing that value with the kerbweight.

Tell me about the Renault tow weight anomoly.

I bought an 05 Renault Scenic 1.9 DCi as a tow car. The 1300 kg brochure quoted tow weight was fine for our 1179kg caravan. However the 1300 was driver only. As the family also like to come on holiday, when the car was full you could only tow 950kg. An expensive mistake. It was a shame because IMO the Scenic is a much better MPV than than most others.
