Stuart & Allison,

You need to check out the Caledonian McBrayne website where you will fing fares and timetables for ferries to the Western Isles.

They do special deals called Island Hopscotch which usually give a circular route from mainland to islands and back to mainland. For example: Mallaig to Skye - Skye to Harris and Lewis and back to Ullapool is currently quoted as follows:

Although you do have to cross the sea to get to them, I don't think the "overseas" forum is the best place to discuss the Western Isles!!

You could drive over the Bridge to Skye saving an expensive ferry crossing from Mallaig. Unless of course you want to go via Fort William and on the road to the isles up to Mallaig.

I know that parts of Scotland are considered very far away, but I am amused that information regarding them should be posted under 'Overseas Parks and Touring'. Don't forget your passport.
