Wet Lockers ?

Hi again,

another newbie queerie for you, my caravan has a locker on the front nearside which the book describes as a "wet locker", there is also an external plug point in here. so what is the use/function of the wet locker other than general storage area ?.

It is a bit strange isn't it, given that we have all been brought up to learn that electricity and "wet" don't mix well together !!

I guess originally the idea was that you could shove anything in there that was soaking wet, safe in the knowledge that it wouldn't ruin the inside of your caravan.

But now with the demands for more mains powered outlets and in particular a means to provide 240V in the awning, that "wet" locker has become the quick way of locating a socket that can be got to from the awning without running an extension cable out of a window.

Our Ace Supreme has exactly this arrangement.

I use the "wet" locker for storing the toilet flush and waste chemicals, along with a 5 litre plastic jerry can that is handy for filling up the toilet flush tank. I travel with the jerry can empty but it also serves to stop the chemical bottles sliding around in the locker. The plug socket is high up in the locker so even if there was to be a leak from the chemicals, the two should never meet.

I think that as long as what went in was damp rather than running with water (boots for example) your electricity supply would remain unscathed. The term "damp locker" doesn't have the same ring to it!

Its just an external locker that things like wet boots can be stored in

The power point is half way up the side usually and would need a depth of water over 6 in to be affected!!

We also keep toilet fluids etc in ours

I think it's a bit of a misnomer. It's only a plastic tray with sealant on the screws. We chuck in all the muddy stuff. Don't leave it wet too long or it will start growing mildew and smell of damp.
