Hi

Have a Diesel Shogun, keeping off the motorways towing around the 25 mark, about the same as not towing on the motorway.

Towing on the motorway the mpg drops to around 20.

Having proved more than once, a tow of 180 miles cross country speds around 40 - 50 mph, we got slightly under 30, towing from the lakes to Wales some 300 miles, 18mph.

Now we stick to main roads and short motorway hops, keeps the speeds down, the mph up, and its more relaxing.

Hi,

We have a 02 BMW X5 4.6 petrol and we tow a Lunar Clubman 530/4. We get about 13 mpg when towing & about 20 mpg when solo. Dreadful I know! But it does tow extremely well.

Towing a Lunar Solaris (1410kg loaded) with a Freelander 2 Diesel (auto) - with 2 adults , 1 child and 2 LARGE dogs

Get about 21mpg when towing and about 25mpg commuting (but that is city driving at an average of 15mph).

Solo motorway , at (ahem) motorway speeds I get 35mpg , recently did a trip to Liverpool at a gentle 65mph (didn't want to get there too early) and got 42mpg.

I have the LR Freelander Two 2.2 diesel manual and I get 36 mpg solo and 22/24 mpg towing our Senator Indiana 1500 mgw.

Completly ageee with other postings, less economy on motorways but much less stressful with cruise control selected.

We have a Jeep Grand Cherokee 3.0CRD towing a t/a Delta 1700kg. Solo on a run with a light foot and using V power diesel I can get 34 mpg , around town 25 mpg and towing the van 20 - 23mpg, not bad for a beast developing the torque and hp that it does.

We have a Zafira 1.9 cdti 150bhp and tow a Geist AK495 (1390kgs). With 2 adults, 3 kids and all their paraphernalia towing we get around 27 mpg. Local mileage (very short runs, lots of stopping and starting) around 32 mpg but on a solo run around 42-48 mpg.

Don't think your beetle does that bad!

2004 Mercedes ML270CDI auto chipped to 200bhp towing 2008 Fleetwood Heritage 640es (1700kgs) does on average 20 - 21 mpg which can be a long run or local rallies, it will hold a true 60mph (64mph on the speedo) up any motorway hill with ease, driven at 50 mph would be more economical but I would rather get there sooner. It will do only about 22 mpg solo but 95% is short trips and around town, on a run it is nearer 30mpg.

The V power does improve the economy

We did 3 trips to Beninden in Kent which is 170 miles round trip. 1st trip on a half tank of normal shell gave us a figure of 30.4 mpg, 2nd journey 2 days later with a full tank of mixed V power and normal shell returned 32 mpg and 3 rd journey week later with V power returned 34.4 mpg which was unbelievable. To get these figures I was treating the throttle with utmost respect and held the brute to 56mph. at 1 point on the M20 the on board computer was showing 35.5mpg. I try and only use V power. You do feel the quicker responce especialy when towing.
