What Do Retired People Do All Day?

Working people frequently ask retired people what they do to make their days interesting. Well, for example, the other day I went into town and went into a shop. I was only in there for about five minutes, and when I came out there was a police officer writing out a parking ticket.

I went up to him and said, "Come on man, how about giving a senior citizen a break?" He ignored me and continued writing the ticket.

I called him a pillock. He glared at me and started writing another ticket for having worn tires. So I called him something worse.

He finished the second ticket and put it on the windshield with the first. Then he started writing a third ticket.

This went on for about 20 minutes. The more I abused him, the more tickets he wrote.

Personally, I don't care. I came into town by bus.

I try to have a little fun each day now that I'm retired. It's important at my age

And to think that I may have given up my bus seat to a retiree.

That's if I ever go on a bus. Which isn't likely.

That was a joke wasn't it Bernie?

Just don't even try to do that if you ever visit Germany, Bernie. The police there are likely to get you for slander. The courts take a very dim view of insulting the police with fines far worse than any traffic offence. For the use of the sort of terms that you mentioned, one can easily expect a fine of

Yes Lutz, but in Germany you have a society which respects authority.

Most pensioners I know fill in their day quite adequately by criticising what everyone is doing.

People very often ask me what I do with myself all day saying "Aren't you bored". I've never been bored once since I had to finish work and even if I was that's preferrential to working in all weathers 24/7 doing 12 hour shifts with the stress that came with the job.

Two of my ex colleagues, both older than me, took retirement and went back part time but doing the same Paramedic work. One of them now has started getting chest pains and is having to have a bypass operation. He is still worried and saying he doesn't want to go out on the sick. What is wrong with people, there are many a person who would be thankful of the warning that he had and the chance to have the arteries repaired and take things easy from then on. Those people dropped dead and didn't have the choice of a bypass. You would think my ex colleague was trying to be the richest person in the church yard but I'm sure he would prefer to be buried in the grounds of the Ambulance Station. I wish I knew what made people like him carry on because if I had chest pains with the chance of an operation to allow me more years to live I would take it and sod trying to make more money. The pains are the body saying enough is enough, it's a warning and people should ignore that warning at their peril.

Welcome back from your first weekend away this year. It must be an age thing but here I am thinking he is making sence again.

Since I retired (18 months early) I cycle or walk for between 1.5 and 2 hours every day with a friend. In his case his diabetus state has remained constant and I have lost 35Kg in weight. I woke up one morning and thought 'If I am not carefull that bas**rd Brown is going to get my pension'. What an insentive.

I agree with all the comments regarding filling your days in retirement. After 3 years of it I still find there is never enough time. However, one word of warning. Never answer the telephone as, has just happened in my case 3 days before Xmas, you get a begging call from your old employers asking you to come back for a while, just to help out you know.

Being a sucker for a friend in distress I am now in Budapest for the next year trying to assist Comanies get oil and gas out of the ground. Would much rather be out with the caravan, but it is only 1 year and will boost the retirement pot. But as my wfe states, it will be the last because retirement is very important. It is the only time in your life when you can decide yourself what you are going to do, and when. Plus the opportunity to meet new people, not connected with work, and take up new hobbies etc is somethng I wish to get back to as soon as possible.

My advice is do it as soon as possible.

Cheers
