What do you do when away. ?

Just looking at sites for our next ( planned ) trip away, as we have our two dogs with us, we seldom visit Statley homes etc. And normally stick to sites where we can have a nice walk to pubs and areas that are dog friendly,
What do others get upto.

Avoid the inclement weather that seems to have been around for our last 5-6 trips. But saying that we have enjoyed our days out and like the OP with our two dogs we tend to do some nice walks and visit EH sites, and just enjoy exploring the local area where we are staying.

What do others get upto.

We like to get out and explore the area, with the dog, so usually local towns, beaches and so on. This year we went to see the Durdle Door, in Dorset. Last year we were in Northumberland, and were unable to visit Alnwick Castle whilst exploring Alnwick, as no dogs were allowed inside the grounds, however we did make the drive over to the National Trust Cragside. No dogs inside the house, as usual, but the gardens were well worth the visit, as was doing the 'Estate Drive', where you can see the whole site by car, stopping at various places for smaller walks. I wanted to do the walk to Walla Crag in Keswick last year... but i'd thrown my back out, so couldn't even walk up the hill to the washblock.

Apart from the area in front of Alnwick Castle by the river you cant take dogs anywhere on the Alnwick Estate as there is a walk sponsored by the local council that starts near the church on the outskirts of the town. But it didnt mention any restriction on dogs, it was only when we approached the gates leading to a long drive did a gatehouse keeper tell us "no dogs". But Warkworth does allow dogs, and theres so much to see/do in that area that were weren't inconvenienced.

With 2 small dogs we do the same as most, out walking etc and then out to the pub for t.

We explore the dog friendly places in the vicinity of the site and then just generally chill out. We have just returned from the C&CC site at Sandringham so managed a few beach walks to give our dog his annual bath.

We like visits to Stately homes in fact anything with history to it like old pubs, also Military museums anything related to WW2 and D Day , from tomorrow we will be at Sandringham and Saturday it will be another visit to Muckleborough tank museum,

When we go away we just go to chill out and make the most off it .we both have busy jobs , and I do enough cycling running and driving through the week .

Depends where and for how long,short trips usually just relaxing,week away we usually have a couple of days out earmarked,main two weeks trip we normally have a day out followed by couple of days relaxing about site,repeat.

we have no dogs now, but we still explore the area around the site and further. If there is a castle to explore i'm there, the least altered the better, it lets my imagination run riot. Still have time to sit and relax.around the van

Looks like after my last few postings I shall be sorting out the blinds, fitting a cut off swith and probably reproofing the awning with Fabsil from Go Outdoors, show yourCand C card and get a discount. Oh well beer and wine on site in the sunshine. With burgers Sausages and salmon on the BBQ.

One thing we did learn is that in Cornwall it pays to be a member of the national trust. Some of the beaches we prefer are NT and with free parking for members, three weeks in Cornwall more than covers the cost of membership.

That's good to know... We let our NT membership lapse; there are very few Trust places nearby where we live, so not worth it. Even paying on the door when we do go, doesn't cover the cost of joint membership.

Just as an example, we use Godrevy beach a lot when we are down there, and I seem to recall it costing around £6.50 for the day. Maybe more now as we havent been for two years. When you are there for a month it can really save. Same over at Kynance Cove.

Well, the Get away gremlins are at it again, The Boss was to have e dental work done on Tuesday. Cancelled . So we are booked to get, away Saturday until Friday. Now rescheduled dental work for next Thursday. . Oh well the Mire happens. We are going g to a NT site Houghton Mill, Very nice at £ 24 a night.
