What do you use on hardstanding pitches?

Hi, We are off on our first trip out of the year in 2 weeks (& only our 3rd trip out ever in our 'van) & we have a hardstanding pitch booked. We have not had a hardstanding before & I am now concerned that the hardstanding will ruin our groundsheet. I would like to use some sort of covering as we have a rule 'Shoes off at Awning' due to the kids! What do you use on hardstanding?

We always try to get hardstanding pitches were possible and still use the groundsheet, we find that the groundsheet just helps keep the dust etc out of the van

Nothing on a hardstanding, in fact nothing on grass if it's dry.

Shoes stay out in the awning whatever the conditions - we do use flip-flops in the awning.

If you insist on having a covering over the hardstanding, try a Bolon carpet - they're better for grass as well as they let it breathe.

We're new ourselves and have a seasonal pitch which is hardstanding with stones as big as plums. We have a Conqueror with a full size awning and bought a length of matting, the sort they put behind pondliners to stop stones puncturing them - it was about

Hi

depending where we are going we take either a ground sheet for hard standings or grass, prefer grass but not always available.

as we only have a porch awning the ground sheets are not to big and heavy to transport.

The material used for hardstandings is very variable from Pea Gravel(small 10mm pebbles, the best) to Scalpinng (Quarry waste, the worst) I use a sheet of building grade polythene under the groundsheet, this protects the groundshhet material from cuts. sharp edges etc

To secure the awning long metal tent pegs are escential, plastic pegs are useless, don't even try. Heavy rock pegs are the best

Mac

PS in dry weather I use grass pitches without a groundsheet.

Hi All, Thanks for your suggestions. When it is warmer we will definately have grass pitches, it's just while the weather is like it is we thought it may be easier & less muddy with the kids having a hardstanding. We use the awning for the kids to play in so I will definately have a look at the pond lining & the building grade polythene to put under the groundsheet just to protect it a bit. Thanks again.

Haven't used our awning yet. This may be/is a silly question butif hardstanding is really hard how do put the pegs in?
