hi here is a scenario that i have been giving some thought. if whilst towing your caravan you have a back end collison (ie,into the rear of the van) but the car is no problem so the rac, green flag,aa etc only recover the car and van if the car beaksdown.so if you are in eruope and this happens the van insurance wiil pay for repair but not to bring it home. so what do you do to protect yourself from this? hope it never happen's!!! peter

Hello Petercoachman.I am a member of Greenflag via Mayday with the Caravan Club. If your situation occured in the UK, then they would recover everything. For Continental caravan holidays we use the Caravan Clubs RED PENNANT "Motoring and Personal".Again they recover everything,BUT,if you caravan is a write-off they would organise a payout and not recover(smallprint).

This sort of scenario illustrates why it is important to have a recovery service tailor-made for caravanners, rather than a stadard car scheme tweaked to include a caravan. Personally, I would only consider services provided by one or the other of the main clubs. The Caravan Club's service has already been mentioned. The Camping and Caravanning Club also offers an overseas service via Europ Assist, or more comprehensively, the RAC Arrival scheme, which as far as I am concerned is quite simply the best in the business, giving full cover for car and caravan, at home or throughout most of Europe, on a year round basis.
