Know what to do if your motorhome's electrical step fails? Ask Jack!

Practical Motorhome's regular columnist Gentleman Jack enjoys a bit of motorhome DIY, so click here to read how he got on when the cantilever step stopped working on his 2008 Autocruise Wentworth, where he found the cheapest replacement parts and his theory on why it went wrong in the first place!

I have the sliding type step on my van. On a number of occasions it has refused to come out or go back in. It was usually when the leisure battery was a little low. We spend a lot of time off grid on the Aires.
I have found that all it needs is a good cleaning and fresh grease on the runners. It does involve taking it off but not such a difficult job if you have screwdrivers and a socket set.
I was at the point of looking for a replacement before I found out it was just dirty and lacking lubrication.
