What to do with old travel guides?

I’m desperately looking for more space on my office bookshelves and at present two shelves are full of various travel guides. In some respect they are memories of places visited and enjoyed, but in five years since moving house I can’t recall having taken one down and read it. The thing is that I hate wastage and would love to see them have a second life. In many respects the information in them is still valid, as history, culture, geography, fauna and flora etc don't go out of date. Other information like restaurants, opening times and entry charges for venues, transport, medical services etc do go out of date and are more readily found on the internet.

What do you do with your travel guides? Library, local school, used book company/charity?

U.K. or Overseas?
U.K. Ward Lock Red guides are collectibles .But only pennies.

Hospital libraries maybe.

Before satnav I had street Maps in the car of every city and Town in the U.K. No second hand value. Sadly binned them all!

We asked ourselves last year about old books in the loft. We dont want the kids having to sort through reams of old papers and books. Again some we gave away to charity shops others in the recycling bin.

Thanks Dusty. Last year we had a day out to the Sharpness Canal and dropped off my university text books, daughters nursing degree and grandsons law degree books at a place near Frampton on Severn, British Book Rescue, then had a nice walk and lunch by the canal. Our loft is now clear, some stuff being diverted to daughters loft which has better access. Having had a close colleague die falling from his loft I decided to take action.

We often go down to that area to a very nice CL.

They are on the road to the Wetlands Center at Slimbridge just before you cross the canal.
Gotcha as the Tudor Arms is the one with the caravan park at the back. Never been into Slimbridge itself, but we used to go to Moorend farm CL. A visit to Purton to walk along the canal or on occasions to Berkeley. Getting built up around the Berkeley / Sharpness area with many new houses.

Moorlands Farm looks promising for a long weekend away. Close but far enough for an explore.
I see the price includes 10kwh electric . Considering how cold it is in the winter and how cheap they are you can’t expect more.
I wonder if they are able to allow extra power purchase?

10kwh in the winter will not last very long. We do have gas of course😉

I think Buckman is confusing Moorland Farm CL (Banwel, Weston-super-Mare) and Moorend Farm CL (Slimbridge). At Moorend, all electric is included in the price. Great for walking along the canal, but the tow paths do get muddy in wet weather. At Moorland, 10kW is included and yes, you can buy more if you need it. Moorland only has one hard standing pitch and the grass pitches aren't usable in winter, but it is a wonderful CL, our favourite out of the half dozen or so we've visited. You can pitch up within feet of the water, the owners are really helpful and friendly, it's quiet and there's a small dog walking area where you can let your dog off lead. Negatives, it's quite a long stretch of single track road to get to it (there are passing places and we've never had a problem), the toilet and shower are 'rustic' and the WiFi isn't great. I have no doubt we'll be making our third visit to Moorland later in the year.

I would have thought that if referring to Slimbridge, Berkeley / Sharpness area that it would be Moorend farm at Slimbridge. I never mention anything about 10kwh and electric has always been free and I think they shut over the winter period? It is quite a nice little site conveniently located down a narrow lane where you pray you do not meet an oncoming tractor with a trailer. LOL! :D

You could try Oxfam bookshops and see if they want your old travel guides .
I am having a clear out of other books too, as I tend not to read a book more than once. And trying to persuade Mrs OC that the large number of cookbooks none used in the six years in this house should go too. So they will probably go to British Book Rescue near Frampton and then we can take a walk along the canal. The more valuable ones from my WW1 and2 war collection will go to our local hospice charity where they benefit by Gift Aid.
