Hi.
Just spotted a previous post here which mentioned a wheel cover on special offer from the Bailey parts website.
Ive just had a look at it but was wondering how it actually fits to the wheel arch.
It looks as though it fits around the top of the wheel arch.
Is this correct and is there any other fittings required?

Thanks forest.
The one I use at the moment is held on with 3 of those plastic suckers but doesnt look very neat.
Bailey are asking £41 for theirs which I suppose is a little expensive but I must say it does look nice and neat and with a bit of care, should last a long time.
The Bailey one also appears that you can run the main skirt along the front of the wheel cover too.
Still not sure how they attach to the wheel arch though.

Hi Adrian, made my own earlier today, like Forest, 3 bolts. a peice of facia board cut insde the arch. Drilled 3 small holes in lip of wheel arch, bolts at top middle, left and right. I also cut the back off one edge of the figure 8 joiner and bolted it with small bolts to the facia. so now fit cover, slide in skirt all done, east peasy.

Hi Forest, the board I had was the thicker one (20mm thick) thats why I cut my fig 8 down, perhaps you could let Adrian know the width of the one you used so he can get the fig 8 to slide on.
I bought the special plastic spray paint undercoat and grey top coat to spray it but I actually liked it white to suit the same colour of the side of the van so havent used it.

The later Baileys have a hidden channel around the wheel arch into which the Bailey cover fits , a bit like an awning into the awning rail.

As DDs comment the Bailey wheel arch moulding closes up I have pushed the PVC bit into the arch and am going to try to cut it and sew some awning cord on when Im home. With mine there isn't room to put a board in like there was with my sterling the wheel comes very near to the outside of the arch.

When you say a "Hidden Channel" Dustydog,do you mean the bit at the very top of the wheel arch?
I dont have the van here to go and check, its in storage.
If it is where I think it is,I would imagine that you have to "peel"off the top piece of the arch, to reveal the channel where the cover would slide into?
Oh....its a 2009 Sancerre.

I don't have any pics to hand . However the piece of beading that sits all the way around the wheel arch has a hidden hollow centre. At the very end / beginning you can gently open it up and pass the bead of the wheel cover through in the same way you feed an awning into the awning rail. I suggest lubricate both the arch and cover bead with silicone spray to assist the threading process which is not as easy as it should be.

My wheel arch cover arrived this morning from Bailey and it does look really good I am very pleased with it.

However on the downside I tried to slide it through the rail the same as I would an awning and couldn't do it
I then lbricated the rail and tried again still no luck it was just not having it.
Scoured around the garage and found an old flat plastic pen I slid this around the awning rail and pushed the cover it to place just after the pen had passed if you understand what I am trying to say anyway this worked it was in place and perfect

Good for you John.
Im pleased your happy with it.
Hopefully,mine will be here tomorrow.
Thanks for the tip about threading it through.
I remember Dustydog say that it may need a little lubrication(and persuasion)

I suppose after a few "insertions",it may loosen up a bit.lol.

As I said I put on a lot of lubricant but being a twin axle and the angle being severe it is too much to pull through after the first angle so it is easier to do as I did and use the plastic to open the awning rail

anyway let me know when you get yours tomorrow

Thats a good clear picture, better than the website one.
Im looking closely at the "White rib"that runs horizontaly along the cover, and im a litttle puzzled.
I thought (having seen the Bailey website picture),that I would be able to run my long piece of awning skirt through that channel, but it looks to me as though it is a strip of awning bead and I wont be able to.
May sound a daft question, but what is the point of having an awning bead there, if it isnt going to be threaded through any part of the rail?

The cover goes over the wheel arch as per the picture (my porch awning is about 3.5 metres long.
so I will feed my skirt on the rail as per usual then put the piece of plastic on the wheel arch bead and then feed my skirt through the plastic and out the other side.

This will make it then one solid piece admitadly no different than if I had used suckers to stick a piece of skirt over the wheel arch but in my mind it will look much neater and more solid

John
PS. if you are still not sure let me know and tomorrow I will fit it all on my caravan and take a picture for you

Sorry to sound so dumb John, and I do appreciate your help.
Not sure what you mean by"Put the piece of plastic on the wheel arch bead, then feed my skirt through the plastic and out the other side".
Do I need to purchase this "Piece of plastic" which will fit onto the wheel arch bead?

It was too late to install it all but I have laid it out on the floor so you can see if you dont have the plastic you will have to buy it but most caravan dealers will stock it

In the picture you will see the wheel arch cover which is approximatly two metres long
then the there are two pieces of plastic pipe each one about one metre long

you will see one piece fitted to the wheel arch cover and the skirt the other is laid out on its end view so you can see
then the skirt which is about four metres long

I hope this is now self explanotory

Yes thats excellent John.
Thank you so much for that.
I just couldnt work out how the long skirt was fitted to the new Bailey wheel cover.
I now understand fully.
Looks like a trip to Chipping Sodbury Caravans at the weekend then.
Thanks once again.
Adrian
