Hi all

Can the wheels of a Lunar Delta 610-4 12inch be changed for a 13inch.

Reason difficulty in getting 12inch alloys. Plus more choice on 13inch.

I have check with the manufacturer they were a bit unsure of the wheel box clearance. I have placed a 13 inch on the van just to see and al seems well but have not towed yet.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Les, the thing you need to really check in detail is how much clearance you have between the wheel and wheel box, not just stationary, but loaded with what you take with you, and also under stress conditions, like going over roughish roads, whee the van bounces on its suspension.

If the suspension can flex to its max without the larger wheel fouling the box in any way, it should be ok.

Shouldn't be a problem Les as difference is only 1" (1/2" either side) If you fit a lower profile tyre this will compensate for this and give the same diameter across the wheel.

An issue with changing the tyre profile is that the caravan suspension is made up by the combination of the ALKO axle rubber suspension and the flexibility of the tyre wall.

A lower profile tyre will be stiffer than a normal profile, so your van will have a harder ride. How much? depends on what profile tyre you fit.

So any crockery in the van may bounce up and down a bit more, but conversely the van will exhibit slightly less roll for the same disturbance.

I would also suggest checking with your insurers that this is acceptable to them. You are technically changing the specification of the van from that supplied by the manufacturer and therefore really needs to be logged, even if it is perfectly feasible.
