When reversing caravan brakes!

Hi everyone, & season greetings to you all!

I have a 1988 Abbey 213 GT & when I reverse I've noticed the brakes come on the van?

I know it should do this so it can brake when I'm going forward, but I'm wondering if you can lock it off somehow so when I want to reverse more than a couple of yards!

I've looked in the owner's manual but it doesn't mention anything!

Any advice would really be appreciated!

Thanks!

Steven,

The caravan brakes "should" , for want of a better word, collapse when being reversed by car, as the hitch should move backwards, compressing the linkage and operating the mechanism to release the brakes.

If it is not doing this, then the brakes need servicing, as possibly the link rod is not adjusted properly, or the release cam in the drum is not working as it should.
