Where to sell a caravan - private

Decided to sell my 7 year old much used and loved Burstner. Tried to advertise on PCV Buy/Sell but website refused to accept - 'Form error;
Tried several advertisers in PCV and CC magazine who publish 'before you sell your caravan try us' type adverts - no reply to several e-mails to all of them.

Why do these people advertise if they won't at least reply ?

Why are the more reputable website not set up to accept advertisments about niche market caravans ( I cannot think of a more charitable reason for PCV etc.)

I have tried Preloved, Caravanfinder etc. won't use Ebay as I am not confident about their security arrangements.

Currently in local freebie newspapers. Where have others advertised ?

Did you just try once on Practical Caravan? I wouldn't have thought you should have had a problem. Maybe Parksy can help - he's now an expert on all things PCV.
If you're a member you can advertise on UKCS free of charge, and if you're not a member you can join easily enough and put an advert on straight away.
Are you in the Caravan Club? They also have a section for members to advertise free of charge.
We sold ours by sticking a notice in the window and leaving it on the road (Ok a long time ago during the fuel strike) and it sold to the first person to look at it.

Ray - I've just had a look on the Free Adverts section of the website for UKCS and there is a drop-down for Burstner in the list of caravans. It would be worth looking on there. I advertised a cheap old caravan for sale, a couple of weeks ago and have already had four enquiries - one of whom wants to come and tow it away this weekend without having seen it - and it's a genuine enquiry too! If you want me to pop it on for you I'd be happy to do so.

Hi Ray, I sent an email to you last week with regard to the problems of trying to pace an advert on the Buy / Sell section of this website but I'm not sure whether you saw it or not.
I've seen good reports about Preloved which carries caravan adverts f.o.c.

Sorry Steve, didn't get the email but much appreciate your assistance. I'm on Preloved now and the CC ads section so here's hoping.

It's all a bit sad really as the burstner has been home for nearly 3 years out of the last 7 - a higher percentage than three of the brick houses I've had over the years. But it won't do for another 5 years of the same so .....

Again, thanks for your input - i'm about to try to place on PCV once again.

Hi Val, thank for your help. Must confess I had not heard of UKCS and on Googling got UK Continence Society !

However, have now found there right site and placed an ad. but can't get it to upload a photo - much the same problem as i had with the PCV site.
Very kind of you to offer help but I'll play about a bit more when I'm a bit fresher and I'm sure I can get the photo there.

I still don't understand why a whole number of dealers spend money advertising ' we want your caravan' and then don't have the courtesy to reply, even if only to say ' no thanks'. My old Mum would have reminded them about manner quite sharply !

eBay classified ads is normally quite good and you can stipulate no foreign buyers and cash on collection.

Why not give a few more details and an asking price on here? Someone may be interested.

Good idea Brum but as an ex-Mod I don't feel this would be the thing to do. Can't have Parksy and Damian jumping all over me !
I've tried PCV ads which would be fine if the website worked, but it refuses to accept photos and none of the layouts shown fit the van, so that won't do either.
Evryon has been very helpful so have lots of irons in fire but feel the fire needs a bit more fuel.

Thanks, though

We put our old (1996) caravan on Preloved, Gumtree and Exchange & Mart (via local paper). Dozens of enquiries and sold and towed away within hours (from Preloved advert). No hassle and on all the sites I could upload numerous photos.
