Hiya. This question may have been asked several times but here goes. Which is the best to join, Caravan and camping or Caravan and motorhome club. Thanks.

Hi Billy Wizz I can only give as I find and we Joined the CMHC. no issues.They Offer a discount at Motorway Services but off hand I cant remember which ones it is.

I planned to decide which one to join after a year's membership of both. But in the end stayed a member. of both. CMHC have more sites and more CLs but being with both opens up the sites and CL/CSs too. Also when I booked overseas trips I sometimes used sites that were only listed by one of the clubs so I was able to use both clubs travel services to put the holiday together.
I would try both for 12 months.
I’m a member of both but unfortunately the ccc will have to go next May, I joined the CMCH when I was looking for new insurance for my recent purchase, I can’t remember how much less the insurance was with CMHC but it was definitely a substantial amount which I joined simply to be eligible for the price I was quoted and my ccc membership will expire in May when renewal comes around, after reading nothing but good reports on here of how both clubs give excellent service in the Unfortunate event of needing to make a claim, I got quotes from both and CMCH won hands down.

Beware those who will tell you CMHC is not an insurance policy. Strictly it isn’t insurance but it does give everything anyone would need when things go awry. I am with CMHC and as you say they are very competitive and they have an excellent reputation for handling claims quickly and fairly.

At the moment the CAMC seems to be running as near normal as possible but the C&CC is chaotic, so certainly in the short term I would favour the CAMC.
If you are planning on going abroad next year and want to use a clubs services then the CAMH has to be the choice, the C&CC seem to have closed their Foreign Touring Service and although promising something for next year I have seen no details.
If it were not for the above I would say there is not a lot between them in normal times but the CAMH has far more sites if you want to use them. The sites of both are excellent but not the cheapest but the CAMH does not take deposits and its sites tend to be heavily booked for weekends. The C&CC takes deposits and there tends to be more availability but the deposits are retained if you cancel within 30 days of the booking which puts many off. On CAMH sites you have less choice of the type of pitch you book but they let you choose any of the type you book that is free. The C&CC allocate a pitch although generally you can swap this if it is not to your liking.
Both have excellent services to members with specialist insurance but the CAMH breakdown cover is cheaper but the C&CC caravan insurance is the cheaper in general.

Unlike most commercial sites both Clubs do not require payment in full until arrival. Whereas commercial sites its often 30 days prior to arrival. The CMHC has a rolling 12 month ahead booking system. As Ray says often weeds are booked out so anyone say wanting Monday-Monday booking could find it a bit difficult. I dont like the system and think members should be limited to a number of advance bookings, but the facility is there for all to use. But there are many very good CLs and Affiliated Sites (AS) withe excellent facilities which you have to book directly with the site owner, some may require a deposit.

One thing you might like is that both clubs arrange meets via their respective local area organisations. CMHC have now started “ pop ups” to and CCC arrange Temporary Holiday Sites. All these will have fresh water and toilet disposal and some may provide limited electric hook up. But worth a look as they give more flexibility particularly in the Spring-Autumn touring period, and not costly.

When I started caravanning I joined the CCC (then called the Camping Club), for no better reason than my Dad was already a member and he got a membership bonus for introducing a new member. After a few years I switched to the C&MC (then called the Caravan Club) because they operate the Longleat site and we like Longleat!
Under most circumstances I don't see much between them TBH, best advice I can give is to look carefully at what they both offer and go with what suits your style of caravanning.

We belong to both. That way there is usually a site near to where we want to go.
We do not always use the main sites but the CL or CS sites
We also have belonged to both for many years, after all the year's sub is equivalent to less than two nights pitch fees!
If trying to decide between look on the websites and see if there are sites or cs/cls in your favourite area and join that one first.
In some places you can directly compare the sites, Malvern for example shares the same entrance driveway (and a scout/guides camp!) and Sandringham are almost adjacent having access to the same privately owned shop.
Just in case... the CS/CL is the C&CC and C&MHC licenced small sites, privately owned, for example on a farmers field or behind a pub. Some can be very simple , water tap and waste point, although increasing numbers have EHU, hardstandings, and some have dedicated washrooms for visors use.
