Can anyone recommend an organisation which will recover a 2.5mt wide x 7.4mt (not including 'A' frame) long caravan from France/Spain? Unfortunately the CC's Red Pennant will not cover the new regulation of 2.5mts width.

We could not find anyone to cover an 8 metre long caravan 2 years ago at a resonable price too so asked on this Forum for advice. The advice I got and took up on was the German breakdown ADAC who are very good and very reasonable with Partner Plus which covers both my husband and I at 98.70 Euro's per year. This covers the people not the car and coversyou in any car you drive with any caravan. Even if you are a passenger in someone elses car.

To read more about it look at my website http://dvthompson.webs.com under the heading Clubs-Mags-Organizations. Enter the web address straight into your address bar and you will get straight thro to the site. To get more details go to www.adac.de if you have Google toolbar it will translate the whole site into English for you. Hope this helps.

Thank you Dianne I will take a look...
If you have any problems let me know. Lutz, on this Forum helped me no end and will always give more help if I cannot answer your questions. I did check the cover closely and it covers everything we could think of and more.

charlott can I suggest you find a local mobile caravan service mechanic & have at least a running gear/chassis service.

& if the tyres are over 5 yrs old have them replaced

If stuff go wrong abroad it can be very difficult to get it sorted

C&CC or CC for your breakdown cover

Dianne,

I found the full policy details in English on a motorhome website, unfortunately they restrict the length to 8mts including the 'A' frame as my van is 8.53 mts its too long for ADAC to accept.

Thanks for your help anyway.

The RAC Arrival scheme through the C&CC does not have a maximum length for caravans covered. You can have European cover added to this at extra cost. However, it is annual cover, rather than single trip, so may not be what you are looking for.

Nick, where did you find reference to an 8m length limit in the ADAC terms and conditions?

When I take a look in paragraph 2 entitled "Which vehicles are covered?" it says:

Vehicles with up to 9 seats (including the driver), up to 2.55m wide, up to 10m long, 3m high and no more than 3.5 tonnes GVW as well as motor homes up to 3.2m high and up to 7.5 tonnes GVW.

Not covered are scrap vehicles, vehicles in commercial use (excluding taxis) and vehicles with temporary licence plates or unregistered vehicles.

Lutz,

Apologies, you are correct. I don't know where or which breakdown cover conditions I was looking at!! I have been through most of them over the past couple of days. Initially joining CSMA seemed the way to go until I discovered that they have a limit on length, Red Pennant have a limit on width and so it goes on...

However, thank you for pointing out the ADAC terms I will now take out their cover.

Nick
