Which Porch Awning ?

We regularly go away in our caravan (wife, 2 children and a dog). We have a Bradcott Awning, but only put this up when we are away for a few days, not a weekend. Reason for this we don't wish to spend 2 to 3 hours of the weekend erecting.taking down an awning, and then if it gets wet we need to dry it out etc.

However, we are considering buying a porch awning. It needs to be draught free so the dog can sleep in it overnight and also large enough to have a couple of chairs/small table. And obviously quick to put up and take down.

Any recommendations would be appreciated.

Many Thanks.

Steve...we recently purchased a Suncamp Quattro porch awning. I think these are made by Dorema.

This is a traditional canvas type of porch, about 8ft in length, the front panel removes altogether and it has poles that run vertically (from top to bottom) close to the van so they create a good seal between awning and van. Access is from either side.

Only used it once but it stood up to a massive downpour on day two with no problems at all. In all it took an hour to erect (first time) and we did'nt fall out!

Cost with alloy poles (steel are cheaper) around

I have just bought a Porchlite XL, very happy with it, goes up in 20 minutes if you take your time and peg it out properly.

it stood up to massive winds and rain storms and held up perfectly, very water resistant.

used it 3 times to far and no problems despite weather.

Porch awnings aren't that good for the dog to sleep in, methinks. One side will always remain untethered to the 'van, allowing draughts, no matter how close you get it to the 'van wall. We have an Isabella porch awning - even that isn't draghtproof enough for our dog at night. Our Bradcot full awning is well suitable, however.

We also have a Scenic Plus. Great awning, but again, no good for the dog, I'm afraid.

Let him/her in, I say.....

Hi Steve, without an awning rail down the middle of the van top to bottom there will always be a draught, the porchlite however does have adjustable straps to tighten the tension on the sides, this is pretty effective.

The best remedy i found so far is to put the wheel clamp/ lock inside the awning, then bend one of those cheap metal pegs round the side flap and against the lock, works pretty well, there is still a minor draught though. its unavoidable with a porch awning.

take my opinion here though when i say that originally the porchlite xl was intended as a second awning, i now have no plans to buy a main larger awning due to its good size and practicallity.

I am delighted i bought it when i nearly bought a (yuck) pdq awning. good luck in your decision.

Hi Steve,

I use an Ultima 390 and put up a cheapo two man tent for the bowler. We still have lots of room for 2 chairs, a table, cool box and a bench for the kids.if you wish you can put the tent outside during the day.

Its also a handy place to store bags for the awning and your aquaroll and wastemaster. But best of all at night the tent is better than any bankvault. He He.Just be sure to erect a sign "THIEVES WILL BE EATEN"

JB

BTW Total erection time is only @ 25 mins.....
