which sikaflex do I use????

I want to fix a solar panel to the roof of my motorhome , I also want to reseal some panels can any one tell me which sikaflex number to use for each job or can I use one type for both Jobs???
Thankyou TD

For our solar panel I used Sikaflex 512 to bond the mounting frame to the caravan roof. It's vital that the roof is clean and free from grease so I keyed the area where the panel mounts were to be fixed with wet&dry before cleaning with white spirit and finally methylated spirit to remove the oily white spirit residue.
I haven't done any panel or awning rail re-sealing but I understand that Sikaflex 221 (white) is considered best for the job.
Soudal also make caravan sealants and bonding agents which are usually less expensive than Sikaflex but I haven't tried any of their products.

Hi Parksy, Thank you for your quick reply I also intended to but Sika's primer/cleaner to prepare the roof & mounting blocks

You're welcome TD, and it looks as though there will be good weather for when you do the jobs if this afternoon is anything to go by

I used 252.
The difference being 252 is for joints subject to dynamic forces.
Guess this includes wind from driving.

Any concerns Id ring Sikaflex with details of the propsoed installation ie size, weight, arae of fixing mounts etc and ask their advice, although Parksy has used the same Sikaflex as someone on another Forum who claimed a sucessful installation.

Which adhesive or mastic you use depends on who made your van.
Sikaflex is very rarely used by any of the manufacturers.
The main sealants and bonding sealants are RV61 or Bostik variants.

Use of the wrong item could do irrepirable damage to your van.
Similarly the use of certain preparation products could see very serious damage to certain panels.

Checkj with your van maker for the products to use.

Hi i used sika primer 215 on the roof first before i stuck the solar panel down with sikaflex 252.Basically clean the surface then paint this stuff on
I bought 1lt and have about 500 ml left, pm if you are interested in the rest?
The bottle was opened 4 weeks ago

Hi and sorry to hyjack this thread, but is there now a silicone that we can all use safely, to cover all our old carp exterior joints on our 'vans? There might very well been a post raised recently, but we moved just before christmas, and this my first look into the P/C forum. I've asked the same question before, but got shot down.! At the risk of doing so again, I'm so fed up with a sparkling 'van, spoilt by dirty black sealant squidged out from lockers. There must be a way of cleaning the joints up without the obvious risk of disturbing the waterproof joint?

High parksy So sorry for the late reply to Micheal E re the sikaflex I would be happy for you to pass on my e mail to him
Thank you
