Hi

I am looking for a site in france for the first 2 weeks of next years summer holidays.

I have a twin wheel caravan and 2 children age 5 and 2. We fancy somewhere that will have more chance of good weather!, beach access and not too large. Further down than Brittany looks nice but would like recommendations if anyone has any. We went to cornwall this year and it rained non stop.

Thanks

Lisa

Our first trip abroad was a few years ago now but we went to Bonne Anse Plage at La Palmyre, Les Mathes. It's on the Cote Sauvage near Royan. Lovely site in Pine woods, excellent beaches nearby and a fabulous zoo in the lively town. We loved it

Not far from Royan is a favourite of ours (albeit in Whitsun, low season) is Sequoia Park, Marennes, part of Les Castels chain.

Although it is a large site it is very well spaced out with plents of facilities, including pools, for younger children. The zoo as mentioned in the earlier post is within easy driving distance as are the beaches on the Cote Sauvage.

The pitches are very large (min 140sq m) so plenty of room for twin axles.

There is another site just up on the coast from Royan which has poreviously good write ups and is right on the beach. Le Puits de L'Autre. It was closed last year following a family dispute (that's the rumour) but is due to re-open for 2010.

Evans of Sprot has made a rather taciturn comment, but he does have a valid point. Although it is of certain value to get other recommendations of named sites it is also a bit naive to ask others for details that could cover a whole country. That comment is not directed at Lisa personally as she at least narrows it to a Region, but to anyone who asks 'how long is a piece of string?'. Each of us has different ideas of what sites are good, or not so good and usually that is only discovered the hard way, by actually visiting them. Even then as things can change from year to year a recommendation is only valid for a short period of time.

As Evans has stated the CC Europe Guide lists a vast number of sites and each has comments from members. Alternatively Guides such as the Alan Rogers one lists sites that their representatives actually inspect.

What I would suggest is that Lisa kinda shortlists some of the towns she would like to visit, check what sites are available in those areas, and then ask for comments if she sees any that could appeal.

If we can help, then I for one am glad to do so, but I can only do so much. I could not tell you all the sites we have visited in France, but if someone mentions a town, or name I can either recognise it, or not.

Go to www.ukcampsite.co.uk

There's a review section there which should give you some guidance. All the reviews are by people who have actually visited the sites and have first hand knowledge.

Don't know if I should tell you about this site, but I think its just what you are looking for. Camping de La Baie in Southern Brittany. We have three children 7 and twins 5 and have been to this site for the last two years and have booked again for 2010. Just under a three hr drive from Roscoff, beautiful weather, small very friendly site with almost direct beach access. We love it for the above reasons. Only place we needed to drive to was the supermarket and that was only 5 mins. Lovely area with walks. Near to Carnac. There is a mini club on site for the children, lovely pool with a waterslide and I liked the baby pool as the twins were only 3 when we first went and the pool was very safe. When we arrived in Aug we met people from the previous year and everyone seems to rebook. Hope this helps.

Like you we went to France because of two wet summers in Cornwall!! Can't imagine doing the main summer break anywhere else now!!

I live in France & have just had a couple of weeks touring around the Bordeaux area.

2 of the 3 sites we stayed at had a ban on twin axle caravans.

I've no idea why unless they equate twin axle vans with 'travellers'

Many thanks for all your help and advice, it really all helps as new to this. I yesterday received my Alan Rogers guide which has been a great help,I have been able to contact many sites of interest and request more details.

I will however make sure that I ask which ever site I decide on that they take twin wheel caravans.

Thanks Denise, sounds just like what we looking for, with young children.

Thanks

Lisa
