Can anybody recommend a good wax to use on a 2007 Bailey Ranger. I have a vague memory of seeing somewhere that Bailey recommend that one particular type of wax isnt used as it could cause damage to the bodywork, but i cant remember the make.

Any advice greatly appreciated.

Hi Lee,

I spoke to an employee of Bailey at the NEC show who told me not to use Fenwicks on their vans. More specifically, it was Bailey's supplier of GRP that stated this because of a number of cases where the plasic had cracked.

He went on to explain that the only product recommended by the supplier was something called Caraclean (not sure if this is right).

I have used Fenwicks caravan cleaner & Bobby Dazzler on a Bailey Ranger 470/4 and haven't noticed any problems at all.

On our new caravan, I will probably use something like Auto Glym to avoid any potential warranty problems.

Martin.

The name of the Polish is Care-avan and web site is www.care-avan.co.uk. Its the only polish endorsed by Baileys that will not invalidate your warranty.

Thanks,

Derrick

Hi Derrick

I must have got it wrong when I heard you mentioned on the caravan channel's programme, I thought they said that you were going to be there.

Not polishing any Bailey Vans this year at the NEC either?

Hi, just finished polishing my new Bailey Pageant Champagne and used Autoglym Super Resin Polish. It goes on really easy with a damp cloth and removes anything missed when washing beforehand. It also removes any the black marks left when rain runs down from window edges etc. Took me all day but then i did do the roof as well, to give it a good layer of protection from the elements over winter.

The dealer recommended any well known brand so i don`t see a problem really. As with anything caravan related if they call it `caravan polish` they charge a fortune for it! Halfords were doing 3 for 2 on some Autoglym Products so might be worth a look.

I too use Autoglym Super Resin Polish on my Bailey Ranger and previously on my Bailey Beachcomber and have always had brilliant results!

Dont waste your money on dedicated caravan polish, use what the traders use 'Autoglym'. Rolls Royce recommend it......what are you waiting for!

WHAT A LOAD OF RUBBISH,HERE IS THE RESPONSE FROM FENWICKS

FENWICKS IS OK WOTH BAILEYS

With reference to the information sent out to Bailey Caravan Dealers. Fenwick's pride themselves on the quality and performance of their products. Their technical knowledge and expertise is highly regarded by customers (the trade, end users and manufactures), The Caravan Club and the Camping & Caravanning Club due to dedication and devotion to the caravan industry for over 13 years. With regard to the Bailey Owners Manual Fenwick's Caravan Cleaner is not dissimilar to car shampoo and does not contain any of the chemicals referred to in 5.1.1 (abrasive agents, methylated spirit, white spirit, other solvents or washing up liquid). Therefore to "wash the caravan regularly with a car shampoo" would give similar results as washing with Fenwick's Caravan Cleaner. So why would this invalidate the warranty offered by Bailey Caravans Ltd.

There has to be an existing defect in the material or the way the it has been used for the cracking to become visible to the naked eye after washing. This is not ruled out by the test results as the information provided states that "when Fenwick's Caravan Cleaner was applied to the ABS surface severe cracking became noticeable" Not that it caused the faults in the first place. We understand a material supplier to Baileys is Thompson Plastics.

In their product information sheets Thompson Plastics state that their material can be cleaned with Carafax Concept Parts Cleaner, Humbrol Low Aromatic White Spirit Cleaner and Carafax Distillate Cleaner. Thompson Plastics also state that "the panel should be free of fitting stress", "distortion will increase stress in the moulding and could result in visible surface fractures over time." and "Resistance to any given chemical substance is conditional on the products being installed in a stress free condition." Extremely important considerations as stress could cause visible surface fractures to appear.

Thompson Plastics commissioned independent testing which proved that "the material (Fenwick's Caravan Cleaner) is not deleterious to capped ABS in the relaxed condition."

So if there was any misunderstanding that Fenwick's Caravan Cleaner could void the warranty of a correctly manufactured and fitted part, then they are sadly mistaken.

Regards,

Jonathon Smith B.Eng Director
