Just had my letter, no retirement for me....... I'm wondering what I will be like at 66 years old!!!!

Well, I'll have time for caravanning but will everything else be there???

Not if you read the thread about 'Is this the end of caravanning..................'. You'll either be on your own on a campsite somewhere, or the 'caravans' will be made of canvas, have guy ropes, sleeping mats, and little Trangia stoves - and they'll be carried in a motorbike and sidecar or even a back-pack on a hike!!!! !

Smiley, that depends on how long till you're 66! I intend to carry on caravanning until I can no longer climb into the towcar!

At the moment 11% of our wage goes to our pension. It is so high because we can retire after 30 years
It is going up to 14% and we can then retire after 40 years. Who wants a 60 + year old firefighter & that includes male & female firefighters

Caravanning at and after 66 is great - personal experience of 10+ years - and doesn'y have to break the bank either. Suggest you consider outfit and equipment carefully and prune down to essentials. Setting up and taking down seem to take longer, but that's probably due to all the 'help' that seems to be offered. Getting out of UK January to Easter can approach break even is you use short ferry crossings and cut out all domestic heating, and the sun comes free without any prescription renewal nonsense.

Photo in C&CC mag showing lady with Eriba and she was 93 ( I think but certainly over 90) and it was her last outing with the Eriba and from thereon she would go on coach trips! So hopefully many more years ahead for you. I retired in 2000 and get my state pension soon so I am very fortunate compared to those coming along who will have to work longer.

We met a lovely couple on a CL a few years back, who were in their late 80's and still active and loving their caravanning. The only concession to age, they said, was no longer putting the full awning up. Gives us all hope!

And at St Pons in the south of France we met a French couple in their nineties, who had a motorhome. They drove no more than 50 km a day between sites, and spent from March until the end of September every year 'on the road'. They were both fit and well, and obviously had a great time.
We made friends with them, though they spoke no English, by making a fuss of their little dog - who loved us. We got 'chatting' and had a coffee with them, and a couple of glasses of wine one evening - and we managed 'proper' conversations with our limited French. We discovered a shared interest in wildlife, and brought out all our nature books, comparing names and information - especially when he found the most beautiful moth at the back of his van!
So you've still got thirty years or more!
