Wieghts

Hi all.

My towcar is a 2004 Galaxy 1.9 TDI 130 bhp manual gearbox. I was looking at the weight plate under the bonnet and am trying to work out what the different figures mean. The figures that are there are:

V- 2510 KG

B- 4000 KG

GU- 1240 KG

R3- 1280/1355

Would someone be able to explain to a thicko like me what this all means and how you work out the kerb weight?

Many thanks,

Phil.

V = Max. permissible GVW

B = Max. permissible Gross Train Weight, i.e. car + caravan

GU = Max. permissible front axle load

R3 = Max. permissible rear axle load. I don't know what the two values mean. Perhaps the second one is when towing, but it could also be with heavy duty rear springs or two alternatives without and with self levelling suspension (if such an option exists).

There is no way of working out the kerbweight. The only way to get an accurate figure, if you want one, is to put the car on a weighbridge.
