Will a portable satellite dish suction pad damage the roof?

We have been given a Kerstan portable satellite dish, which has a suction base

Whilst the dish is fairly small, the suction base is understandably pretty rugged, with a fair size foot print. My question is "could this cause damage to the vans roof?" i.e. What are the chances of it pulling the aluminium away from the insulation, or worse still stretching the aluminium and leaving a bubble/bump in the roof!

I appreciate the odds of anyone having any direct experience with this dish are low; however has anyone got any experience of using anything similar?

Also has anyone come up with any other smart dish mounting options? My kids will knock a tripod over for sure(!) and a jockey wheel system may block access to the front locker?

Hi Jeremy We use the the system from Maplins the suction bass can be used in many ways I have used mine on the side of the van but of course this depends on where you are and the direction the sat you want to use is in.

I should say I have stuck it on the van quite high up out of the way, not sure about the roof.

I've stuck my dish onto the van with the supplied rubber suction cups and it's fine. I've yet to stick it to the roof of the van but I will this summer. The suction cups don't mark and as there's no weight in the dish, there's nothing to damage the roof with.

I think the only time it's going to do any damage is if the wind really gets up and pulls the dish out of the clamp.

I've mounted it on both roof and sidewalls with no issues at all. You may get 3 round suction marks when you take it off but that will come off with a bit of autoglym. They are very sturdy - I had mine up in a gale force wind and it didnt move at all.

Do you really want to take the chance given the weather that we can get in the UK...???????
